Mehr als 1.000 Journalisten aus aller Welt erlebten am Vorabend des Automobil-Salons in Paris neben zwölf Weltpremieren des Volkswagen Konzerns ein weiteres Highlight: Jean-Claude Plassart, Präsident des Automobile Club de lOuest (ACO) übergab im Rahmen des Volkwagen Konzernabends den Siegerpokal der 24 Stunden von Le Mans offiziell an die AUDI AG.
Eigentlich ist die prestigeträchtige Trophäe ein Wanderpokal, den der Le Mans-Sieger nur jeweils ein Jahr behalten darf und vor dem Start des nächsten Rennens wieder an den ACO zurückgeben muss. Nur ein Automobilhersteller, der die 24 Stunden von Le Mans mit demselben Team dreimal in Folge gewinnt, darf den Pokal für immer behalten.
Audi ist dieser Hattrick nach 2000, 2001 und 2002 bereits zum zweiten Mal gelungen: 2006, 2007 und 2008 siegte das Audi Sport Team Joest dreimal in Folge mit dem revolutionären Audi R10 TDI. Es waren die ersten Siege eines Diesel-Sportwagens in der Geschichte der 24 Stunden von Le Mans und ein weiterer Beweis für die Innovationskraft und den unternehmerischen Mut der AUDI AG.
Die inzwischen acht Erfolge von Audi bei den 24 Stunden von Le Mans würdigte ACO-Präsident Jean-Claude Plassart in seiner Rede, ehe er den Pokal unter großem Applaus an Rupert Stadler, dem Vorsitzenden des Vorstands der AUDI AG, Audi Motorsportchef Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich und Le Mans-Rekordsieger Tom Kristensen übergab.
"Le Mans ist und bleibt eine der größten Herausforderungen, die es im Motorsport gibt", sagte Rupert Stadler. "Wir sind stolz, den Hattrick zum zweiten Mal geschafft zu haben." Stadler hob die besondere Leistung des gesamten Teams in diesem Jahr hervor, weil man gegen einen außerordentlich schweren Gegner beim härtesten Rennen der Welt gewonnen habe.
Le Mans und Audi seien eng miteinander verknüpft, was unter anderem in einer Anzeigenkampagne zum Ausdruck komme, die Audi in diesen Tagen startet. Ein erstes Motiv von "Le Mans" und "Le Audi" wurde den Medienvertretern vorgestellt.
"Der Pokal wird in Ingolstadt einen Ehrenplatz erhalten", sagte Stadler. Zuvor wird die eindrucksvolle Trophäe während des Automobil-Salons in Paris auf dem Stand der AUDI AG ausgestellt.
