Les écuries de l’European Le Mans Series se sont brillamment illustrées le week-end dernier à l’occasion de la 80ème édition des 24 Heures du Mans.
A commencer par l’écurie Thiriet by TDS Racing, victorieuse lors des 6 Heures du Castellet et actuelle leader du classement ELMS. Après s’est qualifié en 4ème position de la catégorie LMP2, l’équipage Beche/Thiriet/Tinseau s’est emparé de la 2ème place en course à l’issue de la première heure, Mathias Beche prenant même un temps la tête.
Victime de plusieurs aléas inhérents à une telle compétition (dont plusieurs crevaisons), l’Oreca 03-Nissan rétrogradait au 16ème rang avant d’entamer une superbe remontée pour conquérir la deuxième marche du podium LMP2. Pour sa première participation aux 24 Heures du Mans, l’écurie Thiriet by TDS Racing s’est d’ores et déjà affirmée comme l’une des références de la catégorie.
Complétant le podium LMP2, l’équipe argentine Pecom Racing s’est très longtemps maintenue à la 3ème place de la catégorie. Sanctionnée par un stop and go pour vitesse excessive dans la pit-lane, l’Oreca 03-Nissan du trio Ayari/Kaffer/Perez Campanc est parvenue à revenir au 2ème rang à mi-course. Toutefois, elle devait s’incliner face au retour de la voiture de Thiriet by TDS Racing et se contenter d’une superbe 3ème place.
En LMGTE Am, le suspense aura duré jusqu’à la fin des 24 Heures. Après avoir dominé durant une grande partie de la course, la Porsche 911 GT3 RSR de Armindo/Narac/Pons engagée par l’écurie IMSA Performance Racing, a finalement obtenu la place de dauphin dans le fantastique duel qui l’a opposé tout au long de la course à la Corvette n°50.
Pas de victoire, mais une 2ème place à l’arrivée qui en a presque la saveur tant cette course aura été indécise jusqu’aux dernières minutes pour l’équipe de Seine-Maritime, auteur d’une prestation exemplaire pendant 24 heures.
AF Corse, dont l’une des Ferrari 458 Italia est engagée en ELMS, s’est également illustrée en s’imposant en LMGTE Pro. Catégorie qui a vu JMW Motorsport, équipe 100% privée, réaliser une belle course avant de devoir renoncer sur panne mécanique.
Les quinze écuries ELMS engagées aux 24 Heures du Mans vont désormais profiter d’une trêve de trois semaines pour préparer les 6 Heures de Donington, les 14 & 15 juillet prochains.
