Au terme de l’édition 2008 des 24 Heures du Mans, les membres de Larbre Compétition étaient partagés entre joie et frustration. Si l’écurie avait conscience d’être passée à côté d’une belle performance par la faute d’un porte moyeu épris de liberté en début de course, elle pouvait se consoler en pensant qu’elle avait aussi réussi le pari de la Saleen.

Après deux heures de course et suite à la casse d’un porte moyeu ayant nécessité trois quarts d’heure d’immobilisation aux stands, Christophe Bouchut, Patrick Bornhauser et David Hallyday sont finalement remontés à la 28e place après être tombés dans les profondeurs du classement. Ils prenaient la 7e place d’une classe où ils étaient promis à un plus bel avenir.

Christophe Bouchut expliquait : « C’est très décevant, évidemment. Je loupe la pole pour 9/1000e et le porte moyeu ruine littéralement notre course… Les frustrations ne manquent donc pas !

Il est certain que nous n’aurions pas été capables de battre les usines mais une place au pied du podium était à notre portée. J’ai un petit goût d’inachevé dans la bouche ce soir, mais je me réjouis néanmoins de la fiabilité de la Saleen. »

Patrick Bornhauser ajoutait : « ça ne tient pas à grand-chose, une bonne prestation ! Tous nos problèmes, y compris celui de ce matin avec le fond plat, vinrent de la perte de la roue arrière gauche hier.

C’est dommage. Je ne pense pas que nous aurions été en mesure de jouer la victoire, mais nous avions notre place dans le groupe de tête. C’est d’autant plus frustrant que personne n’a fait d’erreur… »

David Hallyday confirmait : « Si l’on fait abstraction de la malchance qui fut la nôtre en début de course, tout a plutôt bien fonctionné et sans la perte du porte moyeu gauche en début de course hier, je pense que nous serions ce soir en bonne position.

Pour moi, le point le plus critique de la course fut le petit matin avec l’apparition de la pluie qui a singulièrement compliqué les choses, spécialement dans les chicanes. A part ça, la voiture a parfaitement fonctionné. »

Jack Leconte, responsable de l’écurie concluait : « Suite à notre problème après deux heures de course, l’objectif principal fut de faire couper la ligne d’arrivée à la voiture. C’était important pour l’écurie et nos partenaires qu’elle soit à l’arrivée.

Si le résultat n’est pas celui que nous attendions, nous sommes malgré tout fiers des performances de la voiture et de sa solidité. La Saleen inquiétait nos concurrents sur une épreuve de 24 Heures et nous sommes parvenus à la fiabiliser grâce à une année supplémentaire de travail avec Oreca.

C’est de bon augure pour les 24 Heures de Spa où nous aurons notre revanche. Nous n’avons eu qu’un problème technique avec la roue que nous devons analyser. »
