Gelungener Auftakt für Young Driver AMR bei den 24h von Le Mans. Beim bedeutendsten Langstreckenrennen der Welt setzt das Team aus Paderborn gemeinsam mit dem Werksteam Aston Martin Racing einen Aston Martin Vantage V8 in der GTE-Am-Klasse ein.
Das dänische Young Driver AMR-Fahrertrio Kristian Poulsen, Christoffer Nygaard und Allan Simonsen qualifizierte den Aston Martin im Zeittraining am Mittwoch und Donnerstagabend in Le Mans für den dritten Startplatz in der GTE-Am-Klasse.
Die beiden Trainingstage in der französischen Partnerstadt von Le Mans verliefen für Young Driver AMR bisher nahezu problemlos. Allan Simonsen setzte die Bestzeit des Aston Martin mit der Startnummer 99 auf der 13,629 km langen Strecke mit einer Rundenzeit von 3:58,725 bereits in der ersten von drei Qualifyingsessions am Mittwochabend. Am Donnerstagabend in zweiten und dritten Qualifying konzentrierte sich Young Driver AMR darauf, die Rennabstimmung für den Aston Martin herauszufahren.
„Ich bin bisher sehr zufrieden mit den beiden Trainingstagen“, sagte Young Driver AMR-Teamchef Hardy Fischer. „Wir haben in den beiden letzten Tagen gut gearbeitet und uns darauf konzentriert, eine gute Rennabstimmung zu finden. Unsere drei Fahrer haben bisher eine gute Leistung gezeigt, mit den Rundenzeiten sind wir sehr zufrieden.“
„Das Auto lief bisher perfekt“, so Allan Simonsen nach dem Qualifying. „Am Donnerstag hatten wir nur ein kleines Problem mit dem Unterboden. Das war ein bisschen schade, denn sonst hätten wir vielleicht nochmals die Chance gehabt, auf die Pole zu fahren.“
„Wir lernen mit jeder Runde auf der Strecke dazu und haben im Verlauf des Trainings gute Fortschritte gemacht“, sagte Kristian Poulsen nach dem Qualifying. „Für mich ist es schon eine kleine Umstellung mit einem GT-Auto zu fahren, denn zuletzt war ich 2009 in einem Prototypen hier. Im GT-Auto musste ich nun erst mal lernen viel häufiger in den Rückspiegel zu schauen, da die Geschwindigkeitsunterschiede schon sehr groß sind.“
Young Driver AMR beim Aston Martin Racing Festival:
Nicht nur bei den 24h von Le Mans ist Young Driver AMR zusammen mit Aston Martin Racing am Start, sondern auch beim Aston Martin Racing Festival. Beim erstmals ausgetragenen Aston Martin Racing Festival sind ausschließlich Aston Martin-Rennfahrzeuge seit Baujahr 2005 startberechtigt.
Den ursprünglichen Plan mit dem Aston Martin DBR9, mit dem Young Driver AMR im vergangenen Jahr den Vizetitel in der Fahrerwertung in der FIA GT1-Weltmeisterschaft gewonnen hat , zu starten, musste das Aston Martin-Team nach einem technischen Problem am DBR9 kurzfristig ändern.
Die „Not so Young Driver´s“, Young Driver AMR-Mitbegründer Jan Struve und Young Driver AMR-Berater Jac Nellemann werden anstatt dessen am Samstagmorgen mit dem Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 in das 45-minütige Rennen starten, mit dem Kristian Poulsen und Christoffer Nygaard am letzten Wochenende das ADAC GT Masters Rennen auf dem Sachsenring gewonnen haben.
