Agreement Will See SPEEDCOM Service Teams and Officials in International 24H Series
Leading motorsports radio technology company SPEEDCOM Communications Inc. has been named the Exclusive Official Communications Equipment Supplier for the 24H Series – an international auto racing series featuring 24 Hour races – in a three-year agreement announced today by officials from SPEEDCOM and series organizers Creventic.
"We are very happy about the new agreement with SPEEDCOM because they have a very good track record in the United States where they have extensive experience in endurance racing as the official supplier of, among others, the Grand-Am Sports Car Series," said Gerrie Willems of the Holland-based Creventic. "This agreement underlines the importance of the 24H Series as a leading international endurance racing series, which is also reflected by the number of race cars and the many nationalities that compete in the various races."
One of the newest and most exciting series on the worldwide motorsports scene, the 24H Series features a variety of classes for production based race cars, including GT, Touring, Silhouette, Cup and 24H Special cars. The 2008 series includes four races and began with the Toyo Tires 24H Dubai in the United Arab Emirates on Jan. 11 – 12. The remaining rounds will be the 24H Eurospeedway (Lausitz, Germany) Aug. 16 – 17, the Hungary 12H (Budapest, Hungary), Sept. 27 and the 24H Valencia (Valencia, Spain), Oct. 11 – 12. SPEEDCOM was present at the Dubai opener and will be on site and available to service all competitors and 24H Series organizers beginning with the next round in Hungary.
"We are incredibly excited to join with Creventic as an official partner in the 24H Series," said SPEEDCOM Chief Executive Officer Toto Lassally. "We look forward to bringing our professional and highly regarded support, service and communications products to another endurance racing series as prestigious as the 24H Series, but that is not the only reason our new relationship is the perfect partnership at the right time. The international business nature of Creventic and the 24H Series reflects the overall global growth of SPEEDCOM, and this is one of the most important partnerships in our company's history."
Established in 1996, SPEEDCOM is the world leader in motorsports radio and communications systems and also offers a related line of high-performance products and accessories for companies and competitors in all facets of the motorsports industry. Created and owned by racers for racers, only SPEEDCOM has first-hand experience in understanding the needs of competitors – behind the wheel and in the pits – and the incredible demands required of equipment and communications in endurance racing.
With headquarters in heart of the "World Center of Racing" in Daytona Beach, Florida, and in the European gateway city of Barcelona, Spain, SPEEDCOM products and technology are distributed globally throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, The Caribbean, Spain, Portugal, Holland, Belgium, Scandinavia, Italy, Germany, France and New Zealand. Future expansion calls for operations and distribution in Dubai and Australia.
During the 24H Series races in Europe and Dubai, SPEEDCOM will offer a variety of technology and support options to competitors, from full systems and new installations to servicing the existing radio components currently used by teams.
"It is not required for the teams to use SPEEDCOM equipment, but whenever there is a problem with a communications system in a race car, SPEEDCOM technicians will be glad to assist and offer a tailor-made solution," Willems said. "The fact that they have not only worked but actually raced in so many endurance events makes the SPEEDCOM team qualified to handle any communications issue that may emerge in a 24H race."
Among SPEEDCOM's innovative products are the exclusive Dual-Talk and Multi-Talk radio systems that allow several members of a racing team, including the driver, to communicate on different channels by simply pressing one of several PTT (push to talk) buttons. SPEEDCOM also offers a variety of more traditional two-way radio systems as well as custom microphone, ear piece and head-set units.
"Endurance racing is our specialty and I am very confident we will not only meet the needs of the teams in the 24H Series, we will exceed their expectations," said Lassally, who has driven in the Toyo Tires 24H Dubai as well as the Rolex 24 At Daytona. "That is very important as good communication is a key part of success in endurance racing and can literally mean the difference between winning and losing."
In addition to the competitor and series radio communications service, SPEEDCOM will also work with Creventic in developing online live coverage of 24H Series races through www.24HSeries.com.
Using its Live-Link technology proven in the online coverage of Grand-Am races, SPEEDCOM has systems available that will allow online listeners to hear approved team and series communication. An interactive feature is also being explored that would actually allow listeners to ask drivers and other competitors questions during yellow flag or "Code 60" caution periods during races.
