The hour started under the safety car, which was released early in the hour, when the weather had improved slightly. However, the rain intensified again soon afterwards.
As soon as the conditions went green, Montanari in the nr 2 Vitaphone Maserati pushed hard to catch the nr 4 PK Carsport Corvette C5. The driver from the Republic of San Marino finally overtook on lap 442, at La Source, giving a pattern of alternating Maserati MC 12 and Corvette cars in the top seven GT1 cars.
In the wet conditions, Marcel Fässler, in the nr 5 Carsport Holland Corvette, was lapping consistently faster than Thomas Biagi in the nr 1 Vitaphone Maserati MC 12. On lap 448, the gap between the two was 1 minute and two seconds. A lap later, this was reduced to 59 seconds. On lap 452, Fässler has closed to within 47 seconds, gaining on average three seconds a lap faster than Biagi.
In GT2, Malucelli was behind the wheel of the nr 97 BMS Scuderia Italia Porsche 997 GT3 RSR, with a six-lap lead over Long in the IMSA Porsche, and Sean Edwards in the Tech9 Porsche a further three laps behind. The leading Ferrari 430 GT2 is fourth in the class, the nr 63 Scuderia Ecosse Ferrari. After five consecutive wins for the Ferrari 430 GT2 this season, it looks likely that there will be a change for round 6 of the Championship.
The nr 2 Vitaphone Maserati had a long pit stop to allow the rear fog light to be replaced, but still retained third place, Bobbi at the wheel. Van de Poele took over the lead car.
Right at the end of the hour, Fässler had a spin at Les Combes and managed to rejoin the race without losing much time. The nr 18 SRT Corvette also went off, Coens at the wheel, but also rejoined.
After these two spins, the safety car was brought into play again as the clock struck 12:00, due to the heavy rain.
