A1GP teams in wet first test at Donington Park

10.09.2008: A1GP teams in wet first test at Donington Park

The Donington Park grand prix circuit in England reverberated today to the sound of the new 600 horsepower A1GP Powered by Ferrari car as the teams contesting the fourth season of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport experienced their first test of the new car.

Torrential rain failed to dampen the teams’ spirits as the participating countries’ drivers got to know the cars they will be racing in the 10 rounds of the 2008/09 season that starts at Zandvoort in the Netherlands on October 5.

Adrian Zaugg, driver of A1 Team South Africa’s "Vulindlela", which made its debut in its new RSA national flag livery, was quickest in the morning session and impressed with the Ferrari-engined car. The 21-year-old, who won twice last season and piloted South Africa to a fine fifth place in the championship, said: "It was quite difficult to compare the new car with the old one, because it was wet this morning, but I really liked it.

"The car cornered well in both slow and high speed corners. It is a very good car, and had really good grip for the wet conditions, particularly under braking. We only managed a total of 20 laps in the time available and weren’t really too concerned about lap times. We have another day of testing on Thursday and, hopefully, the track will be dry and we’ll be able to get a better idea of the new car’s capabilities," added Zaugg.

The A1GP test car, which has now completed 7 446 km in testing, also took part in today’s test with Thomas Biagi at the wheel.
