A belated satisfaction for Team Switzerland

The A1GP fans have remunerated the Swiss team for the setback suffered in Mexico by choosing Neel Jani as "Driver of the day". On the www.A1GP.com  website, 43.1 percent of the votes went to Jani.

In the feature race at Mexico, Team Switzerland and Jani had to endure two setbacks, which cost at least second place, if not even victory. On lap 26 of 47, the race was neutralised behind the safety car following a harmless driver error by New Zealand's Johnny Reid. At that point, Jani was leading the field with a six seconds' margin.

Later on, Jani was given a drive-through penalty while running second for allegedly having blocked the eventual winner Ireland with Adam Carroll during the second pit stop after 34 laps.

More than two fifth of all voters acknowledged Jani's performance by choosing him as "Driver of the day" in hindsight. Previously, he never got this honour, in spite of winning four races. A fan by the name of Rusty Shackleford summed it up: "Neel Jani is the best thing to come from Switzerland since Toblerone chocolate', he wrote.

Result of the vote for "Driver of the day" in Mexico: 1. Neel Jani (Switzerland) 43.1 percent. 2. Adam Carroll (Ireland) 39.7. 3. Jonny Reid (New Zealand) 7.5. 4. Oliver Jarvis (Great Britain) 5.4. 5. Jonathan Summerton (USA) 4.3.

Standings in the nations' cup of motorsport (16/20): 1. Switzerland 128. 2. New Zealand 113. 3. France 108. 4. Great Britain 95. 5. South Africa 85. 6. Netherlands 80. 7. Germany 77. 8. Ireland 73. 9. Canada 62. 10. China 45. -- 22 nations. - Remaining rounds: April 13th in Shanghai (China) and May 4th at Brands Hatch (UK).
