A1 Team France dominate wet Feature race in Zandvoort

Sunday, October 05, 2008

What a superb race! It was wet, but that didn't dampen anyone's enthusiasm.

Flag France win, ahead of Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia, Netherlands, Monaco, Korea, Lebanon, China.

Flag It's the first Feature race win for Loic Duval!

Flag France has won the Feature race!

Lap 35 All the cars have to finish the lap under the safety car to be classified. France is poised for victory.

Lap 35 We've run out of time. The race will finish under the safety car.

Lap 34 The timing is nearly over. Will we get another lap of racing action?

Lap 34 Both drivers have got out of their cars. They seem to be ok.

Lap 33 Replays show that Lebanon's Daniel Morad lost control of his car, and spun into the back of China's Ho-Pin Tung. Both cars careered at speed into the tyres. It was a big accident.

Lap 33 Lebanon and China are both in the tyres at Tarzan.

Lap 33 The safety car is out. There has been a huge crash on the main straight.

Lap 33 The weather is still making this a really tough race.

Lap 32 The order then is France, Malaysia, New Zealand, Lebanon, Australia, Monaco, Netherlands.

Lap 31 The USA is out! Charlie Kimball is beached in the gravel at Turn 5. He had just set the fastest lap of the race too!

Lap 31 There are just nine minutes to go - it looks like this will be a timed race.

Lap 30 Australia is under investigation for the way it left the pits, side-by-side with Lebanon. It looked like Martin was struggling to get away.

Lap 30 It's a very good stop and Loic Duval retains the lead.

Lap 30 France is getting ready for its second pit stop.

Lap 29 New Zealand makes its pit stop, but comes out behind Malaysia.

Lap 29 Lebanon manages to get back ahead of Australia, after Lebanon also makes its pit stop.

Lap 28 Australia makes its second pit stop.

Lap 28 Malaysia comes in for its second pit stop.

Lap 27 Malaysia appears to be catching France.

Lap 27 The pit stop window is open. Who is going to make the next stop.

Lap 26 France has a 6.3-second lead over Malaysia.

Lap 25 The Netherlands seems to be having gearshifting problems. The USA's Kimball passed him easily on the straight.

Lap 25 The USA is now ahead of the Netherlands - what happened?

Lap 24 Lebanon's Daniel Morad spins out of fourth place. He gets going again, but not soon enough to prevent Australia's John Martin snatching the position.

Lap 24 Australia's John Martin is pushing hard to catch the Lebanon's Daniel Morad.

Lap 22 The second pit stop window is coming up soon. How will it change the order?

Lap 22 The order is France, Malaysia, New Zealand, Lebanon, Australia, Netherlands, USA, Monaco, China, Korea.

Lap 21 France's Loic Duval now has a 4.587-second lead.

Lap 19 Lebanon are running in fourth - they have never scored a point in A1GP before - but that will change today!

Lap 19 The Netherlands passes the USA for sixth place round the back of the circuit, when Charlie Kimball has a slide.

Lap 19 Korea got going again - that means with all the retired cars they are guaranteed a point on their debut!

Lap 18 The safety car is coming in this lap.

Lap 17 The order behind the safety car is France, Malaysia, New Zealand, Lebanon, Australia, USA, Netherlands, Monaco, China.

Lap 17 Sorry our live timing isn't working everyone - hope you are all enjoying the live video.

Lap 17 The safety car is out to recover the damage. The field will close up.

Lap 17 Portugal's Filipe Albuquerque has had a big crash at the quick final turn.

Lap 16 Korea spins out.

Lap 16 Indonesia's Satrio Hermanto crashes out of the race.

Lap 16 A bizarre incident - Jeroen Bleekemolen has brought the Dutch car into the pits and is clearly angry about something. He is waving his arms around everywhere.

Lap 16 France is under investigation.

Lap 15 It is good enough to keep the lead.

Lap 15 France comes into the pits to make its stop.

Lap 14 Netherlands' Jeroen Bleekemolen passes Lebanon's Daniel Morad for seventh.

Lap 11 Keep your questions coming into podcast@a1gp.com for our panel to answer about this race later on.

Lap 11 So the order is France, New Zealand, Portugal, Malaysia, USA, Lebanon, Netherlands, Australia, Monaco, Korea.

Lap 11 Korea moves into the top ten in its first race, by passing Satrio Hermanto in the Indonesian car.

Lap 10 China has now made his pitstop.

Lap 10 France is now leading the race, from New Zealand and Portugal.

Lap 9 Australia is in, and has a good stop.

Lap 9 Netherlands also has a problem changing the wheel. But Bleekemolen eventually gets back out.

Lap 9 Malaysia is the first into the pits to change tyres. It's not a perfect stop - there was a problem on the left-rear wheel.

Lap 8 It's time for the first round of pit stops.

Lap 7 New Zealand briefly runs off the road, losing ground to the Netherlands in third place.

Lap 7 China has got a drive-through penalty for overtaking under a yellow flag.

Lap 7 Malaysia has a 2.4-second lead over France.

Lap 6 Italy's Fabio Onidi made the mistake - he spun and collected Zaugg's South African car.

Lap 6 South Africa and Italy are in the gravel trap.

Lap 6 So the order is Malaysia, France, Netherlands, New Zealand.

Lap 5 Ireland has spun off. Adam Carroll is beached on the grass at Turn 6.

Lap 5 Switzerland has pulled into the pits. There looks to be some kind of problem.

Lap 5 The crowd goes wild! The Netherlands' Jeroen Bleekemolen passes Earl Bamber for second. Can Jeroen produce the good in the Feature.

Lap 4 China's Ho Pin Tung has spun at Turn 2

Lap 4 France is up to second after passing New Zealand's Earl Bamber

Lap 3 Charlie Kimball has spun the USA entry at Turn 6.

Lap 3 The race is underway! Malaysia keeps the lead in the terrible wet conditions.

Lap 2 Safety car in this lap.

Lap 2 We are having a few issues with our live timing at the moment - we're trying to rectify the situation. But stay tuned to these updates to keep you up-to-date of what is happening.

Lap 2 Still under safety car conditions. It is very, very wet here.

Lap 1 Brazil are not in this race - the damage from the Sprint was unable to be repaired in time.

Lap 1 The race is underway behind the safety car with Malaysia leading.

14:58 We are nearly ready for today's Feature race. The teams have left the grid.

14:55 Got any questions to put to our A1GP Racetalk Podcast panel? Email them to podcast@a1gp.com throughout the Feature race.

14:35 Got a Facebook account? Why not join our official fan group? Click here for more details

14:34 We will have two pit stops in today's race. The first will take place between laps 8 and 16 with the second between 24 and 32.

14:32 Like the earlier race, the Feature race will start behind the safety car, because it is so wet.

14:31 Still, the Dutch fans are here in their tens of thousands, and everyone is very excited about the frist Feature race of the new season.

14:30 If it's possible to have got any wetter since I was last with you - it, er, has. It is soaking here at Zandvoort.

14:30 Welcome back to Zandvoort!
