9. Lauf American Le Mans Series, Road Atlanta (01. bis 04. Oktober 2008)
Am kommenden Wochenende wird Pierre Ehret beim 9. Lauf der American Le Mans Series dabei sein. Im Team von Jim Tafel Racing geht er mit einem Ferrari F430 GTC an den Start in Road Atlanta (Georgia - USA).
Bereits zum elften Mal macht die ALMS Station in Road Atlanta und Pierre Ehret sitzt zusammen mit Teamchef Jim Tafel (USA) und Alex Figge (USA) im Cockpit des Ferrari.
"Ich freue mich auf den Einsatz auf diesem schnellen Kurs", so Pierre Ehret vor dem Abflug in die USA. „Unser erstes Ziel ist es, das Auto ins Ziel zu bringen. Wenn es dann noch ein Platz unter den ersten fünf der Klasse GT2 sein wird, dann sind wir umso glücklicher. Die Strecke wurde neu asphaltiert. Ich bin also mal gespannt."
Das Rennen in Georgia, ca. 80 Kilometer vor den Toren der Millionenstadt Atlantas im Süden der USA, wird auch als Petit Le Mans bezeichnet. Hintergrund ist, das die vier Sieger der Klassen LMP1, LMP2, GT1 und GT2 automatisch für die 24 Stunden von Le Mans 2009 qualifiziert sind.
Dazu kommt, das traditionell die Strecke sehr viele Zuschauer anzieht und somit ein ganz besonderer Flair herrscht. Doch darauf wird Pierre Ehret nicht unbedingt als erstes schauen. Wichtiger ist für ihn die Frage nach den Reifen. „Wir fahren dort mit Michelin und ich bin gespannt auf den Unterschied zu unseren Dunlop-Reifen, mit denen wir in letzter Zeit in der europäischen Le Mans Series so erfolgreich waren."
Was den Ferrari F430 GTC angeht, so gibt es dort keine großen Modifikationen. „Es ist technisch die Basisausführung und daran wurde nichts modifiziert", erklärt Pierre Ehret. Was den 4,088 Kilometer langen Kurs angeht, so wird es für den deutschen Piloten keine Überraschungen geben, da er schon öfters dort gefahren ist.
Ein Favorit auf den Sieg ist aber sicherlich das Schwesterauto im Team von Tafel Racing. Dominik Farnbacher und Dirk Müller liegen nach neun Rennen auf Platz zwei der Meisterschaft und wollen auch diesmal vorne dabei sein.
Das 1000-Meilen-Rennen "Petit Le Mans" ist mit 10 Stunden das zweitlängste der Saison. Mit bisher 40 gemeldeten Fahrzeugen (davon alleine 16 in der Klasse GT2) wird es am Freitag (15.25 Uhr lokale Zeit und 21.25 Uhr MESZ) mit dem Qualifying in die heiße Phase gehen. Start zum Rennen ist am Samstag, um 11.15 Uhr lokaler Zeit, bzw. 17.15 Uhr MESZ.
