Five victories and two second places, the fruits of KS Motorsport’s labour after two weekends racing at Dijon. Following on from a strong weekend a week ago in the Belgian Touring Car Series, Steve Vanbellingen and Marnix Vandermaesen at the wheel of the KS Motorsport Ginetta G50 finished first and second in their Division during the second meeting of the Belgian GT Championship MVD in Dijon.

However the team is temporarily pulling out of the BGT. "With the arrival of the Porsche 996 GT3 in our class the GT4 cars have little hope of doing well and this is not the ideal promotion for our Ginetta G50, a car of the newest generation. On advice from the importer we are therefore temporarily stopping. We’ll be re-evaluating matters before the 24 Hours of Zolder and will most probably make our comeback then", team manager Koen Leyssens explains.

The Ginetta G50 of Steve Vanbellingen and Marnix Vandermaesen was the only one to travel on down to Dijon. "Our second car stayed home. It might seem to be a contradiction to thrown in the towel now that we have a victory under our belt, but if you analyse the data you soon realise why", Koen Leyssens continues.

"The difference between the fastest lap times of our car with those of the Porsche 996 GT3, which are also allowed in Division 2, in Dijon amounted to some four seconds. As such there’s very little chance of any close battle, which is what motor sport is all about.

Division 2 is a class for the new GT4-cars and the older Cup-cars, such as the Porsche 996 and Ferrari 360, but in contrast to the championship’s philosophy, no ‘Balance of Power’ is applied between these cars and our GT4s. This results in an enormous unbalance in the favour of…..the older cars, which enjoy greater freedom, and this produces a definite de-motivation"

Steve Vanbellingen joins in: "GT4 is a new concept which needs to be promoted, but we’re being beaten by cars which are 4 or 5 years older. Rather strange? On top of that the technical regulations are such that we can hardly, or not at all, evolve and therefore can’t reduce the difference. For marketing and commercial reasons the Belgian importer has therefore decided to look for alternatives and in two week’s time we’ll be entering in the 500 Km of Zolder, an event of the Dunlop Sport Maxx Endurance Challenge, where the cars will be able to evolve.-"

How the remainder of the season will look for the KS Motorsport Ginetta G50 is not yet finalised. A certainty is that the cars will be competing in a number of races in the DSMEC, and the 24 Hours of Zolder is also a possibility.

The team, the British manufacturer and the Belgian importer will be closely following the further evolution of the Belgian GT Championship, and the verdict regarding the rest of the championship will be decided upon during the coming months.

Next rendezvous in two weeks time, on 25th May in Zolder, for the third round of the DSMEC, the Zolder 500 Km.
