•      First championship win for a McLaren MP4-12C GT3 car

•      Two poles and a fastest lap was enough to secure title

United Autosports have won the 2013 European Supercar Challenge Championship at the last round in Assen, Holland.

Jim and Glynn Geddie brought the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 car home in P7 after a tense first race of the weekend. After Glynn put the car on pole for both races earlier in the day, he took the start but got jumped at the green light before making a great move to regain the lead, leaving his championship rivals hot on his heels.

After putting in the fastest lap of the race, gaining a crucial extra point to secure the championship, Glynn pitted the McLaren to hand over to Jim who had to serve a 60 second success penalty - the maximum enforceable under the championship regulations.

The team’s closest championship rival, Jan Versluis in his Ferrari 458 GTE car, needed to win but could only manage third place meaning Jim then faced the challenge of bringing the car home in a points scoring position in order to clinch the championship. A seventh place finish was enough for the team to be declared champions after crossing the line.

The team’s win is also the first championship win for McLaren GT this year.

Jim Geddie, Driver, United Autosports:
“I cannot begin to describe how I’m feeling at the moment. To have won the championship still with one race to go is an incredible feeling. A massive well done to all the team who have worked hard all season long. I am thrilled for Glynn and myself to have won another championship together. There will definitely be some celebrating tonight.”

Glynn Geddie, Driver, United Autosports:
“We have finally done it! It is such a great feeling to be Supercar Challenge Champions, and to share another championship win with my dad is fantastic. I’d like to dedicate the win to my close friend and fellow driver, Sean Edwards who sadly passed away last week.

Thank you and well done to all the United Autosports guys who have done such a great job with the car to get us to this point. I’m looking forward to seeing what next year will bring now.”

Zak Brown, Team Owner, United Autosports:
“To win our first championship with Jim, Glynn and McLaren in only our fourth year of competing is a fantastic achievement. Winning the European Championship only a few weeks after coming second in the British GT Championship is a great way to round off the year. We still have more races to go before 2013 comes to an end so hopefully we can continue our current success.”

Richard Dean, Managing Director and Team Owner, United Autosports:
“To be able to say we are the 2013 European Supercar Challenge Champions is incredible.  We have done so well throughout the year, being on the podium at almost every round and consistently scoring points, which at the end of the year is the key to winning the title. A huge well done to Glynn, Jim and the whole team.
