GME: Corvette C7 with supercharger upgrade and 630 hp

While earlier Corvette models ran behind their European competition in terms of driving dynamics, this situation changed in the new millennium, and since 2014 the seventh generation Corvette has successfully carried the baton of America’s sports car legend.

The C7 Corvette is a real Porsche beater, especially so with the top-of-theline Z06, which packs a hefty 659 horsepower. At 40,000 euro however, the surcharge over the 466 hp entry-level C7 Stingray is not inconsiderable.

Now however, entry-level Corvette owners seeking Z06 performance for less have a credible alternative in the form of the aftermarket supercharger conversion from Leipzig-based GME German Motors & Engineering.

This supercharger kit was developed for the Corvette C7 LT1 V8 engine in collaboration with the renowned US specialist, Edelbrock, and comes with TÜV certification for Germany.

Using a supercharger with 55% greater chamber volume compared to the factory Z06 unit, GME is able to run their intercooled blower less hard thereby circumventing the thermal problems that the top factory model can encounter.

 For extreme use such as on the racetrack, GME also offers a water injection system that further lowers the intake charge air temperatures. With the supercharger bypassed using a pressure operated air valve under low engine loads, the engine runs as stock in normal light throttle operation.

The vehicle presented here is tuned for a conservative 630 hp, which is not too far off the Z06 output, and this can be ramped up to as much as 850 hp if required. Further contributors to the performance increase come from the uprated fuel injection system and revised ECU mapping.

The power upgrade path is topped off by a stainless-steel sports exhaust system with sound flaps and four big end pipes developed for the C7 with the aid of computer gas flow analysis, and precisely laser digitised for production accuracy.

In addition to this engine upgrade, GME also offers further bespoke uprated components for the Corvette C7. A high performance brake system with 380 mm diameter discs clamped by eight-pot callipers in front and 356 mm discs with four-pot callipers at the rear provides optimum deceleration.

The slotted, vented brake discs are a race style composite design with separate alloy hubs to prevent excessive heat transfer to the hubs. Carbon-ceramic brake discs are also available as a further option. In all cases, GME fit braided steel brake hoses to minimise line expansion under hard use.

The GME sports suspension provides a further improved driving dynamics. The factory transverse composite leaf springs are replaced by coil-over units with race style outboard fluid reservoirs, featuring upside down units at the front for better low speed compliance.

This far-reaching suspension rework offers a far greater range of adjustment possibilities, along with potentially greater ride comfort despite the lowering and uprating.

A set of attractive alloy wheels should always be the first step in any visual upgrade, and GME offer their in-house Monza S15C7 design, which was developed with the help of state-of-the-art design and manufacturing methods.

As the name suggests, GME designed this wheel exclusively for the current Corvette, so it cannot be used on any other model. This bespoke tailoring ensures a perfect fit in the wheel arches. These wheels are sized 9.5Jx19- inch and 11.0Jx20-inch, and shod with 245/35ZR19 and 295/30ZR20 Michelin tyres.

Last but not least, a body kit from the Luxembourg-based company Abbes Design underscores the sporty look of the Corvette. This includes a front spoiler with splitter, side skirts, and attachments for the front wings. A rear diffuser, a spoiler and inserts for the air outlets complete the visual transformation.
