Walker Racing and Alex Tagliani 3rd in Provisional Qualifying for Long Beach

Walker Racing and Alex Tagliani showed they were ready to give it their all this weekend for the 34th Annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, the final Champ Car race, as they say farewell to Champ Car and their loyal supporters, the fans.

The morning started off solid as Tagliani posted the second quickest time of 1:08.386 seconds and was followed by another superb session for provisional qualifying. The Canadian topped the time charts the entire time and on his last stint, he went out on the Bridgestone Potenza ‘red option’ tires, clocking the third fastest time of 1:07.887 seconds.

Long Beach proved yet one more time to be happy hunting ground for both Walker Racing and Alex Tagliani, who together, took home 3rd place in 2006. This weekend also hits a sentimental cord with Tagliani, who scored his first career win in 1997 in the Atlantic series.

Walker Racing will hit the pavement tomorrow morning at 10:15 a.m. PST, for one last Champ Car practice. For more updates on the team please visit www.walkerracing.com <http://www.walkerracing.com/> .

What they had to say…

Alex Tagliani #15 Walker Racing Cosworth/Bridgestone/DP01: "It’s great to be here. First of all, I’m very happy to have the chance to race with the Walker organization. Three days before the trucks left for Long Beach we decided to do this. They have a great car and the guys are working really hard. They are working both Atlantic and Champ Car this weekend, so they are doing an awesome job. It was my first win here in Long Beach in my professional career, so it means a lot to be here. We had a great session, and had a lot of fun. I can’t wait to do it again tomorrow."

Derrick Walker, Walker Racing Owner: "All in all it was a lot of fun for today’s qualifying. We came here today with a very small group of guys and not a lot of advanced preparation or money. We just came here to have fun and thank the fans and we definitely had some fun today. The guys really worked hard, everyone on the team really mucked in, whether it was the Atlantic or Champ Car guys, they really got the work done. The goal was to just come in and do our best. Alex drove a perfect session. He did everything he could to get the most out of the car, and I’m sure there is more there, but all in all, P3 on the first day is excellent."
