High-powered supporting program at the International CeMAT Forum
* Modern intralogistics in action
* Daily changing program looks at different aspects of logistics with cross-industry applications
On each of the five days of CeMAT 2008 the International CeMAT Forum in Hall 12 will be hosting a series of events. Each day the focus will be on a different branch of industry or a different aspect of logistics with cross-industry applications. The idea is to create a useful and attractive platform for busy industry professionals who want to learn about the practical applications of modern intralogistics. All the presentations will be translated simultaneously into German/English.
Current trends in logistics for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries
The program gets under way on Tuesday 27 May with a survey of logistics in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, presented in association with publisher GIT Verlag in Darmstadt. A line-up of distinguished speakers will discuss such issues as the current challenges facing an integrated logistics strategy for hazardous materials in chemical and pharmaceutical facilities, the design requirements for a pharmaceutical warehouse in the 21st century, and the latest developments in pharmaceutical distribution.
As well as presentations from specialist service providers such as Chemion, Arvato and Dachser, facility operator Infraserv Logistics and business consultants Miebach, other speakers will include Peter Günther, executive secretary of the Intralogistics Forum affiliated to German engineering federation VDMA, and Rico Schulze from Dresden's regional council.
Focus on warehouse logistics and lean warehousing
On Wednesday 28 May the morning session, staged in association with trade paper DVZ ("Deutsche Logistik-Zeitung"), turns its attention to automation strategies for warehouse logistics. The proceedings will be opened by Dieter Urbanke, chairman of the Board at Hermes Warehousing Solutions, who will look at various ways of organizing a smooth-running warehousing operation.
He will be followed by Dr. Wolfgang Echelmeyer from the Bremen Institute for Factory Technology and Applied Labour Science (BIBA) at the University of Bremen, who will ask about the future for robots in logistics. The final speaker is Christoph Hahn-Woernle, chairman of the CeMAT committee and managing partner at viastore systems GmbH, Stuttgart, who will explore the limits of warehouse automation. The morning session will close with a platform discussion.
For the afternoon session from 2.00 to 5.00 p.m., sponsored by "Logistik Heute", the Forum shifts the focus onto warehousing. The main emphasis is on the reconfiguring of processes and technologies with the aid of lean production concepts. Under the chairmanship of editor Dr. Petra Seebauer, various experts in the theory and practice of warehousing will debate the following trends and current developments in lean warehousing:
How far has lean warehousing already progressed in industry today? Where do the priorities lie for businesses when streamlining their warehousing operations and ancillary processes? To what extent have modern methods of lean production on the model of Toyota and Six Sigma already found their way into warehousing?
