At its meeting on Tuesday the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Messe AG, Hannover, took some far-reaching personnel-related decisions. With effect from 1 April 2008 Dr. Wolfram von Fritsch (46) has been appointed to the Board of Management and will succeed Sepp D. Heckmann on 1 July 2008. Likewise with effect from 1 April 2008, Dr. Andreas Gruchow (43) will take on a newly created board-level position in which he will be responsible for international activities. Board Member Ernst Raue, so far responsible for CeBIT and international business, has received a new five-year contract.
Walter Hirche, Lower Saxony's Minister of Economic Affairs and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Messe AG, was quoted as follows: "By taking these decisions the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Messe AG will ensure continuity in the coming years. The enlargement of the Board of Management takes account of the changes in the operating environment.
The company's international business will continue to grow dynamically, and CeBIT will be substantially strengthened. On the one hand, the appointment of a new Chairman from outside the company will inject new ideas and strategies. On the other hand, the appointment of an internal candidate and the retention of the Board Members Stephan Kühne and Ernst Raue will ensure the sustained future development of the corporate culture at Deutsche Messe AG."
Walter Hirche went on to emphasize that the new appointments, effective as from 1 April 2008, will ensure a smooth operational transition. The contract of the current Chairman, Sepp D. Heckmann, expires on 30 June 2008.
Stephan Weil, the Mayor of Hannover and Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board, made the following statement: "Dr. Wolfram von Fritsch has acquired extensive experience in various positions at other companies. He has demonstrated great creativity, outstanding entrepreneurial skills and a high degree of social competence. The Supervisory Board is convinced that Dr. von Fritsch will lead the company excellently in the coming years.
Dr. Andreas Gruchow - thanks to his many years of experience in the trade fair industry - is ideally qualified to spearhead the profitable expansion of the company's international activities. The decision to extend Ernst Raue's contract will not only strengthen the CeBIT trade show, but will also ensure continuity in the top management of Deutsche Messe AG.
