Valentin Teillet (KTM) clinched the EMX2 European title and finished doubts about the Championship winner. He was better of his closest rivals and two events till the end of the Championship he became the holder of the prestige title for the season 2008.
Riders from Netherlands broke the period of the French predominance. In the first race Teillet started to run to get the title already in the first part of the event. Starts are his speciality. If he is fast at the beginning, it is difficult to catch him.
Teillet said: »I had the very good start. In the first lap I was not riding well, I was very strained, my arms were hard and I was not relaxed. Then I was trying to ride more ease and I was much faster. I did not find myself well on the race track, I think this race track is not the one that French riders would like because usually we are not so good on the sand. But I gave a proof that I can be fast also on the sandy race tracks and I am looking forward to the second race.«
Slovenian rider Klemen Gercar (Yamaha) was following Teillet. Because of the crash he regressed. Ceriel Klein Kromhof (KTM) from Netherlands was continuing his good results. The second part of the season is more successful for him. In the first race he finished behind Teillet. Third was another rider from Netherlands, Herjan Brakke (Honda).
French riders Loic Rombaut (Kawasaki) and Loic Larrieu (Kawasaki), who were Teillet's closest rivals in the EMX2 Championship Classifications, did not have luck in the first race. Rombaut started bad and he got only one point. Larrieu crashed and he did not finish the race. The best home rider was Nikolaj Larsen (Suzuki) on the fifth position.
After the successful first race Teillet needed only one more good race to get the Title. At the start he took the lead and Gercar was following him again. Kromhof showed his power also in the second race. He overtook Teillet, who did not want to risk, because he did not need all the 25 points to win the Championship.
Kromhof won, Teillet finished second. Danish rider Larsen was riding better than in the first race. He finished third but it was not enough for the home podium. He missed it for only two points. Rombaut and Larrieu were riding better. They were again close together at the fifth and sixth position.
Ceriel Klein Kromhof became the winner of the Danish event. Valentin Teillet was second and because he is already the European Champion, this second place for him was like the big victory. Herjan Brakke finished top three. Nikolaj Larsen was fourth and Jan Van Hastenberg (Honda) from Netherlands was fifth.
If the title of Teillet was already expected, the fight for the second and third position will still continue at the next events. Loic Larrieu even lost the third position. Results to the fourth place are narrows. At the moment Loic Rombaut is second. Larsen came to the third place and he is only four points behind Rombaut. Larrieu regressed to the fourth position, with the same number of points than third rider Larsen. The next event for the EMX2 European Championship Classification will be on 7th September in Roggenburg, Switzerland.
RIDER'S COMMENTS:
1st – CERIEL KLEIN KROMHOF: »Yesterday I did two good results in the Free Practices and today I had two good races. In the first race I was the third after the start. I came to the second position, than I crashed.Teillet was too fast that I could still catch him. In the second race I had the fast start, but Teillet passed me because I had a small crash again.
It did not confuse me and with the fast riding I won the race. I was competing here also in the last season. I like the sandy race tracks. For me it is not difficult to compete on the tracks like this. I am very happy for this victory and for the new podium.«
2nd – VALENTIN TEILLET: »It was the good weekend for me. I had the first time in the Qualifying Practice. Today in the race I was fast again but in the second race Kromhof was faster. I had two good starts because I have the very good bike. The race track was difficult. Today I already became the European Champion. I would like thank to my team, mechanics, sponsors and to all the supporters for everything what they did for me during the season. The Championship is not over yet, we have two more races.
Although I already have the Title I will compete with the full power. I would like to finish the season with the victory. I think last two events will be easier for me because now I can ride more relaxed and I will not be under the stress. During the winter time I will work very hard that I will be ready for the next season, when I will go to compete to the MX2 GP.«
3rd – HERJAN BRAKKE: »I am satisfied with the weekend here in Denmark. In the Free Practices I found myself very well, then I was riding fast also in the Qualifying Practice. The race came out good for me and I am on the podium.
The first race it was good, I was third. In the second race I had some problems, I did a mistake and I finished fourth. The most imortant is that I finished on the podium. I was fast in the both starts. My bike was good prepared, the podium is a proof that my team is working into the right way.«
