The ESL Intel Arena presents highlights of eSports at the Leipzig Games Convention (21st to 24th August 2008) - over 2,600 square metres of joint performance by Europe's largest professional league for computer games (ESL) with Intel, VW and ASUS - international and national top tournaments
Cologne, 23rd of July 2008 - The Electronic Sports League (ESL) and Intel present themselves at the Leipzig Games Convention from the 21st to 24th of August 2008 with a 2,600 square metre entertainment area (ESL Intel Arena, Hall 3, Booth B30/B40). Experienced ESL TV presenters will take visitors through the program, including the finals of the European Championships in eSport (ESL European Nations Championship) and the start of the eSports Champions League (Intel Extreme Masters) live on the main stage of the ESL Intel Arena.
Several hundred spectators in the grandstands can follow the eSports matches and the ESL TV show. At the VW Scirocco Cup the best driver will win a VW Scirocco. In the ESL Intel Arena the Free Gaming Area invites visitors to play the latest game hits live. On the latest Intel Core ™ 2 Quad, Intel Core ™ 2 Extreme processors and the Intel Centrino processor technology they will experience the games in first-class quality.
Highlights of the eSports programmes are the final games of the ESL European Nations Championship (European championships in eSports) in Counter-Strike 1.6, Warcraft 3, Counter-Strike: Source and FIFA 08 with 55,000 Euro in prize money, and the launch of Intel Extreme Masters, the global league of eSports champions. The Intel Extreme Masters is the highest-paid online tournament of all time with a 750,000 U.S. dollars prize money. On Friday, 22nd August 2008, begins the thirteenth season of the ESL Pro Series officially, the Premier League of eSports, with its first Intel Friday Night Game.
Another highlight is the eSports Award. On Saturday evening Turtle Entertainment, the company behind the Electronic Sports League, will honor for the fifth time the most important personalities of eSports of the past year. In addition to the new edition of the journalist prizes for TV, radio and print, there is an award for the best scene journalists. Following the award ceremony, the Players' Lounge Party is concluding the evening.
The IPTV channel ESL-TV reports live from the ESL Intel Arena. This allows all fans to follow the highlights of eSports at the Games Convention live from home via http://tv.esl.eu.
Exclusive games presentations, daily tournaments and the Intel Racing Tour, in which the players sit down in a reproduced chassis of Formula 1 racing cars round up the programme.
During the Scirocco Cup Volkswagen presents the new sports coupe live at the Games Convention in Hall 3. Turtle Entertainment presents their inhouse gaming client ESL Wire. A specially new anti-virus software, designed for gamers, will be tested in cooperation with the manufacturer BitDefender. While playing, "GameSafe" protects online and offline against viruses, spyware and Root kits, without harming the system performance.
