News and Notes : Battle on the green !!!
The 3rd and 4th rounds of the 2012 EURO-RACECAR NASCAR Touring Series will stand on the 19th and 20th of May on the English circuit of Brands Hatch. Ander Vilarino will try to confirm his leading position but with the opposition of the usual contenders such as R. Thievin and J. Villa but also news drivers from Europe, Latin America and Asia. 45 drivers will fight on the famous English green.
In Nogaro, France, beginning of April, Ander Vilarino made history by winning the first ever NASCAR race in Europe. Catching 1 Pole and 2 wins, the Spanish driver placed his #2 TFT-Banco Santander Chevrolet Camaro on top of the classification during an almost-perfect weekend. Ander Vilarino will arrive in Brands Hatch as the championship points leader, with a great momentum.
Coming from Las Vegas where he currently works, Romain Thievin (#99 Exotics Racing) is ready to retaliate after his 2nd and 3rd places in Nogaro. The French driver will benefit of a perfect car set-up made by Eric Helary, the new team manager of Still racing, who won the 2 English races during the 2011 event.
“We have been a lot disappointed by our performance in Nogaro because the car became tighter and tighter, explained Romain Thievin. We didn’t have a chance to test the car since then, but we will arrive in Brands Hatch with a car set up by Eric Helary who was very fast here last year.”
Javier Villa (#64 TFT) will also be a contender. Beginner in Nogaro (he discovered his car only the day before the event), the former GP2 and WTCC driver reached 1 pole and the 2nd place of the Endurance race. But the Spanish driver is not happy with these results and is ready to ratchet up his performances in England. “
The first rounds was difficult, said Javier Villa. It was my first ever entry in these series, the first ever time I drove the car and I also discovered my team TFT. My goal in Brands Hatch is to improve. The circuit is also new for me, but I’m confident.”
But they are numerous to have the same goal. Let’s begin by the drivers who made high perfprmances in Nogaro, such as Dimitri Enjalbert (#33 Over Drive), Romain Iannetta (#25 Orhès), Antoine Lioen (#5 Rapido Racing) or the Juniors Romain Fourniller (#11 Over Drive), Carole Perrin (#42 Autosport42), Anthony Garbarino (#06 Rapido Racing), Willy Boucenna (#17 Pole Position) and Valentin Simonet (#44 Orhès).
But in Brands Hatch, local drivers can make the difference. Harry Vaulkhard, ex-WTCC, and Freddy Nordström, ex-GT UK, already entered the series in the 1st event but a new driver with records in several international series (Aussie F3 champion, V8 Supercars driver, A1 GP, Indy Lights) arrives: James Winslow. Behind Vilarino, Thievin and Villa, the chase begins!
In Open division, the young Martin Van Hove (#64 TFT) surprised everybody by winning his two first ERNTS races. But behind, his contenders haven’t said their last word, starting with Vincent Gonneau (#15 Gonneau Racing) and Simon Escallier (#18 Scorpus Racing) who were probably the fastest but unlucky in Nogaro.
They are numerous in this challenging division to target the victory: Eric Quintal (#2 TFT), Tanguy Ide, Philippe Marie and Gerald Cormon (Orhes) or Joaquin Gabaron (#5 Rapido Racing), Alain Grand (#11 Over Drive) and the English Neil Tressler and Ben Anderson.
RACECAR NOTES
Viva Brazil ! Brazil will be represented for the first time on the grid with Adriano Medeiros. Highly experimented in various motorsports, he will try to highlight his experience. With this new entrant in the Chevrolet Camaro #42 (Autosport 42) that he will share with Carole Perrin, a new territory opens to ERNTS with broadcasting on local TVs.
A huge market for a future development in South America. Asia will be represented too with the entry of the young Enzo Pastor from the Philippines who will race for the second time after Zanvoort in 2011 where his performances impressed. Appealed by the series he did his maximum to enter this season again.
Trophies : In Elite division, Bruno Cosin (#55 Pole Position) leads the Challenger Trophy ahead of Stephane Jaggi (#33 Over Drive) and Nathalie Maillet (#46 Racing Club Partners). In Junior Trophy, Javier Villa leads ahead of Romain Fournillier and Willy Boucenna. In Open division, Eric Quintal is the best Gentleman and Alain Grand the best Legend.
