A l'occasion de leur 9ème année d'existence, European Le Mans Series proposent un calendrier riche de six rendez‐vous l'an prochain, dont cinq courses disputées sur des circuits choisis pour leur tracé particulièrement sélectif qui mettront en exergue le pilotage des concurrents.
La saison débutera les 9 et 10 mars par les traditionnels tests officiels sur le circuit Paul Ricard HTTT (High Tech Test Track) qui accueilleront l'ensemble des catégories : LMP2, FLM (Formula Le Mans), LM GTE Pro, LM GTE Am et GTC (la nouvelle catégorie créée pour permettre à de nouvelles équipes et de nouveaux pilotes d'accéder à l'Endurance en GT européen pour un budget limité).
Le format de courses sera maintenu à 6 heures, toujours dans un but d’optimisation de la visibilité et de la diffusion TV de la série, assurée via un dispositif Live.
Le lever de rideau de l'exercice 2012 se déroulera les 30, 31 mars et 1er avril. Comme le veut désormais la tradition, cette première manche se déroulera sur le circuit Paul Ricard (dans sa configuration de 5,8 km) pour les 6 Heures du Castellet qui établiront la première hiérarchie de la saison.
Après ce hors d'oeuvre provençal, direction la Belgique où le circuit de Zolder (situé entre Bruxelles et Liège) accueillera pour la première fois le plateau European Le Mans Series du 18 au 20 mai. Ce tracé de 3,977 km alterne de longues lignes droites et des parties sinueuses que les pilotes devront aborder avec la plus grande précision sous peine de sorties de piste qui pourront s'avérer fatales.
Le cap de la mi‐saison sera franchi mi‐juillet lorsque les concurrents traverseront La Manche pour se rendre au centre du Royaume‐Uni sur le circuit de Donington du 13 au 15 juillet. Témoin de joutes historiques du championnat du monde de F1 et de MotoGP, le tracé de 4,023 km est réputé pour être l'un des plus rapides et des plus sélectifs. Les concurrents de la saison European Le Mans Series 2006 s'en souviennent. En revanche, les plus jeunes découvriront ces longues successions de courbes négociées à très haute vitesse.
La trêve estivale achevée, la compétition reprendra les 7, 8 et 9 septembre à l'occasion de la 4ème manche de la saison. Candidat à l'organisation d'un tel événement depuis quelques années, le circuit de Brno en République Tchèque accueillera pour la première fois une course European Le Mans Series.
Située à 200 km au Sud‐Est de Prague, Brno est la deuxième plus grande ville du pays. Les pilotes y découvriront l'un des tracés les plus sinueux de la saison (13 virages) sur lequel pilotage et réglages seront les clés de la réussite.
Calendrier European Le Mans Series 2012
La saison s'achèvera les 2, 3 et 4 novembre sur le circuit d'Algarve au Sud du Portugal. Un tracé de 4,692 km, très sinueux, que la série a visité en 2009 et 2010 pour y disputer une course de nuit. A ce jour, les organisateurs n'ont pas encore décidé si l'expérience sera renouvelée en 2012.
A souligner qu’à l’issue de la saison, 6 invitations aux 24 Heures du Mans 2013 seront offertes aux vainqueurs des différentes catégories.
