Formula 1-honed braking for FIA RX2e Championship as AP Racing comes on-board

01.03.2021: • FIA RX2e Championship competitors to benefit from Formula 1-honed technology • UK-based racing specialist to supply all cars with state-of-the-art braking package • Inaugural campaign set to get underway at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium in May

•    FIA RX2e Championship competitors to benefit from Formula 1-honed technology

•    UK-based racing specialist to supply all cars with state-of-the-art braking package

•    Inaugural campaign set to get underway at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium in May

World-renowned brake and clutch manufacturer AP Racing has been selected to supply front and rear braking to the FIA RX2e Championship – the first-ever FIA electric rallycross championship – when it races into life later this year.

FIA RX2e will support the high-profile FIA World Rallycross Championship at six European events in 2021, featuring a grid of identical lightweight, four wheel-drive cars – each built around a spaceframe chassis and incorporating two independent powertrains alongside a 30kWh battery.

The innovative cars have been designed and developed by Spanish electro-mobility specialist QEV Technologies and Swedish rallycross powerhouse Olsbergs MSE, and with the motor generating 250kW (335bhp) of power and up to 510Nm torque, effective braking is a key consideration.

As a global pioneer in the manufacture of high-performance brake and clutch systems, and with experience and success across a variety of international motorsport disciplines – as an example, every Formula 1 World Championship since 1967 has been won using the brand’s equipment – AP Racing was a very natural partner.

The UK-based racing specialist will provide an industry-leading braking package comprising front and rear calipers, brake discs, pedal box, balance bar adjuster and master cylinders to all competing FIA RX2e cars in 2021.

The forthcoming campaign is due to get underway at Belgium’s legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit on 22/23 May, before travelling to Hell in Norway (12/13 June), Höljes in Sweden (3/4 July), Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain (24/25 July), the Nürburgring in Germany (31 July / 1 August) and Lohéac in France (4/5 September).

Pere Gonzalez, Project Manager, FIA RX2e Championship, said:
“We’ve worked hard over the last few months to develop a car that not only looks fantastic, but also provides drivers with an exhilarating experience. A huge part of our work has been ‘under the skin’ to make sure we get all the fundamentals right, to provide competitors with the most cutting-edge technology available and ensure the driving experience is as engaging and enjoyable as it can possibly be.

“Part of that challenge is selecting a braking partner that can work within a team to create something special. With AP Racing, we have certainly found that.”

David Hamblin, Managing Director, AP Racing, added:
“The new FIA RX2e Championship is another milestone in European motorsport’s shift from fossil fuels to EV-powered racing. We’re very much at the heart of this transition and continue to adapt and refine our braking technology to meet the demands of this exciting new era.”
