Germany beckons for Jon Lancaster

Jon Lancaster heads to the fourth round of the Formula 3 Euroseries hoping that last year’s performances in Formula Renault will repeat themselves in 2008. The Leeds youngster will take on the best in Europe for the latest rounds which take place on the Norisring circuit in Nuremberg this weekend.

During the 2007 season the Multiflight-backed sensation competed in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Championship. So far this year, Jon’s results have largely mirrored that success en route to his superb second place in the championship, in only his first year in car racing.

Last year, like this season, Jon secured his first podium in the third rounds of the series. Then the talented teenager delighted his ‘home’ crowds at Donington with his first win in the ultra-competitive series, narrowly missing out on the double.

Over the remaining races, Jon was the only driver to mount a serious challenge to eventual champion Brendon Hartley. After his breakthrough victory, he went on to record victory in the final four rounds, one more than Hartley, to give him the runner-up spot.

This year, the 19 year-old BRDC Superstar wowed the crowds with a masterful display in the atrocious weather conditions at the last rounds in Pau to take third. Now he will be hoping for his maiden victory in Formula 3 to set him on a similar path.

"We had a great first season in car racing last year, taking it nice and steady at the start and progressing over the course of the first few races, said Jon. "We took the runner-up spot at the third round of the series in Hungary and then went one better at Donington in the next round.

"I’m certainly hoping we can continue the trend this season as it would be great to get my first win nice and early. I’d really rather not have to wait for my only home race this season which isn’t until the end of August at Brands Hatch!

"Seriously though, it’s a tough, competitive championship this season which has resulted in five different drivers winning the first six races. That’s great as it means the championship is still wide open after three rounds with seven rounds still remaining."

Jon’s weekend will kick off with testing at the circuit on Friday before official qualifying and the first race on Saturday. The second race will take place at 10.55 on Sunday and will be shown live on Motors TV at 9.45 (UK time) following a replay of Saturday’s opening round.
