Nico Hülkenberg (ART Grand Prix), Testfahrer des Formel-1-Teams Williams, tritt als Führender der Formel 3 Euro Serie am kommenden Wochenende auf der 1,929 Kilometer kurzen Indy-Strecke von Brands Hatch an. Vorjahres-Sieger Edoardo Mortara (Signature-Plus), der bis vor kurzem die Gesamtwertung anführte, will in der Grafschaft Kent wieder Boden auf den Deutschen gut machen.
Diese spannende Situation will sich auch der britische Superstar Lewis Hamilton nicht entgehen lassen. Der Führende der Formel-1-WM und Sieger der Formel 3 Euro Serie 2005 schaut in Brands Hatch vorbei und dreht dort einige Demonstrationsrunden mit seinem Vodafone McLaren Mercedes MP4-23.
Am Donnerstag vor dem Rennwochenende in Brands Hatch entschieden die Richter, der Berufung des Teams ART Grand Prix stattzugeben und Hülkenbergs Zandvoort-Disqualifikation wegen Untergewichts rückgängig zu machen. Mit den zehn Punkten für seinen Sieg in den Niederlanden ist Hülkenberg neuer Tabellenführer, er hat neun Zähler mehr gesammelt als Mortara auf Rang zwei der Tabelle.
Bester britischer Fahrer der stärksten Nachwuchsserie der Welt ist nach zwölf Saisonrennen Jon Lancaster (ART Grand Prix) auf dem siebten Tabellenrang. Der 19-Jährige aus Leeds gewann vor fünf Wochen auf dem Nürburgring sein erstes Formel-3-Rennen. James Jakes (ART Grand Prix) liegt fünf Plätze hinter dem Rookie. Er möchte vor heimischem Publikum seinen Sieg von Pau wiederholen.
Jon Lancaster (ART Grand Prix): „Ich bin 2006 eines meiner ersten Autorennen auf dem Indy-Kurs von Brands Hatch gefahren, deshalb habe ich besondere Erinnerungen daran. Leider kann man dort kaum überholen. Deshalb ist das Qualifying sehr wichtig.
Mein Ziel bei meinem Heimrennen ist die Bestzeit im Qualifying und der Sieg im Samstag-Rennen. Im vergangenen Jahr im Formel Renault Eurocup gelang mit beim Heimspiel in Donington auch die erste Pole der Saison – hoffentlich ein gutes Omen."
