Die Piloten der Formel 3 Euro Serie setzen am kommenden Wochenende auf der Traditionsstrecke von Le Mans zum Endspurt an. Gefahren wird auf der 4,180 Kilometer langen Bugatti-Variante der durch das 24-Stunden-Rennen berühmten Piste im Nordwesten von Frankreich.
Nico Hülkenberg (ART Grand Prix) könnte sich den Titel dort bereits vorzeitig sichern. Dem 21-Jährigen, der mit einem Vorsprung von 24 Zählern auf dem Zweitplatzierten Edoardo Mortara (Signature-Plus) an die Sarthe kommt, reicht dafür ein Sieg am Samstag – unabhängig von den Resultaten seiner Konkurrenz.
Hülkenberg würde sich mit dem Titelgewinn in eine Reihe prominenten Vorgänger einreihen, unter ihnen Formel-1-Vizeweltmeister Lewis Hamilton (Champion 2005) und die beiden DTM-Fahrer Paul di Resta (2006) und Jamie Green (2004).
Ungleich spannender sieht es zurzeit in der Rookie-Wertung aus. Dort hat Erik Janis (Mücke Motorsport) nach 16 Saisonrennen die Führung inne. Im Abstand von nur elf Punkten reihen sich hinter dem Tschechen drei weitere hungrige Nachwuchsfahrer ein: Jon Lancaster (ART Grand Prix), Mika Mäki (Mücke Motorsport) und Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix). Sein Debüt in der stärksten Nachwuchsserie der Welt gibt in Le Mans der Franzose Nelson Panciatici (RC Motorsport), der Peter Elkmann ersetzt.
Yann Clairay (SG Formula): „Le Mans ist mein Heimrennen und das Heimspiel meines Teams SG Formula. Ich selbst habe sehr gute Erinnerungen an die Strecke. In der Formel Renault holte ich 2004 in Le Mans meine erste Pole Position und ein Jahr später gewann ich einen Lauf im Formel Renault Eurocup.
Für das kommende Wochenende wird es wichtig sein, von Beginn an eine gute Abstimmung zu finden, damit man ein gutes Qualifying hinbekommt. Die Leistung im Qualifying ist entscheidend für beide Rennen. Natürlich lautet mein Ziel, unseren Aufwärtstrend zu bestätigen und mein erstes Rennen in der Formel 3 Euro Serie zu gewinnen."
