Formel 3 Masters in Zolder (B)
Die Volkswagen Piloten Jean Karl Vernay (F) und Martin Plowman (GB) haben die Zuschauer in Zolder mit einer starken Aufholjagd begeistert. Bei dem Debüt von Volkswagen beim Formel 3 Masters war der Franzose nach einem misslungenen Qualifying von Rang 29 ins Rennen gegangen und kämpfte sich im Verlauf der 28 Runden auf dem belgischen Traditionskurs bis in die Top Ten nach vorn.
Martin Plowman (GB), der kurzfristig für Robert Wickens ins Team Signature gekommen war, zeigte ebenfalls sein Kämpferherz und fuhr vom 35. Startplatz auf den 14. Rang. Edoardo Mortara (I) belegte den 15. Platz. Zwar hatte der aktuelle Tabellenführer der Formel 3 Euro Serie schon einige Positionen gutgemacht, musste die Konkurrenz aber in der Schlussphase wegen stark abbauender Hinterreifen wieder ziehen lassen. Der vierte Pilot "powered by Volkswagen", Franck Mailleux (F), schied bereits in der Startphase aus.
"Nach dem nicht optimalen Qualifying haben unsere Piloten alles versucht, um ein gutes Ergebnis in Zolder herauszuholen. Jean Karl Vernay und Martin Plowman ist das mit einer tollen Fahrt gelungen", sagt Volkswagen Motorsport-Direktor Kris Nissen.
"Volkswagen bestreitet die erste komplette Saison in der Formel 3 und hat seine Premiere beim Masters in Zolder erlebt. Wir werden die Erfahrungen gegen starke internationale Konkurrenz mitnehmen, weiter daraus lernen und hart an uns arbeiten. Jetzt bereiten wir uns auf die mit einer Länge von nur 1,929 Kilometern sehr spezielle Strecke in Brands Hatch vor."
Zum nächsten Kräftemessen treffen sich die Piloten der Formel 3 Euro Serie vom 29. bis 31. August im englischen Brands Hatch. Volkswagen Pilot Edoardo Mortara führt die Tabelle vor den Läufen 13 und 14 mit einem Punkt Vorsprung an.

"Ich habe die Chance auf ein gutes Resultat schon im Qualifying vergeben, als ich zuerst in Verkehr geriet und bei meinem zweiten Versuch keine perfekte Runde schaffte. Mein Rennen war heute nach einer Kollision schnell vorbei."

Qualifying: Platz 18 - Rennen: Platz 15
"Eigentlich fühle ich mich hier in Zolder sehr wohl, aber an diesem Wochenende hat einfach nichts gepasst. Im Qualifying hätte ich vielleicht die vierte Reihe erreichen können, wurde aber von einem langsameren Auto behindert.
Die Abstimmung für das Rennen hat nicht hundertprozentig funktioniert. Meine Hinterreifen haben zu schnell abgebaut, sodass ich in der Schlussphase nicht mehr attackieren konnte."
#7 Martin Plowman (GB) - Volkswagen Dallara F308 - Team Signature
Qualifying: Platz 35 - Rennen: Platz 14
"Es war meine Premiere im Team Signature, deshalb musste ich mich erst einmal an das Auto und die Abstimmung gewöhnen. Im Nassen war ich relativ schnell bei der Musik, aber auf trockener Strecke fehlte mir die Zeit für eine optimale Abstimmung.
Nach dem misslungenen Qualifying musste ich angreifen und konnte auch eine ganze Menge Positionen gutmachen. Das ist immerhin ein kleiner Erfolg."

"Im vergangenen Jahr bin ich hier in Zolder aufs Podium gefahren, deshalb hatte ich mir auch an diesem Wochenende einiges ausgerechnet. Im Qualifying sind wir nicht gut zurechtgekommen, aber im Rennen fühlte sich das Auto sehr gut an. Ich habe fast 20 Positionen gutgemacht.
Das macht mir Mut und Hoffnung für den nächsten Lauf der Formel 3 Euro Serie Ende August in Brands Hatch."
