BMW Germany drivers Augusto Farfus and Jörg Müller set the fastest laps in the second practice session at Monza. Müller headed the field for most of the session, only for his team mate to better his time on his final lap.
Farfus set a time of 2:01.006, which was slower than his earlier time this morning (2:00.665) as the track heated up. BMW Team UK driver Andy Priaulx took third position as the BMW cars seem to have found a strong pace in the early stages of the weekend.
Robert Huff improved on his earlier twelfth position to set the fastest Chevrolet time in fourth place. Gabriele Tarquini scored the fastest lap for SEAT, with Jordi Gené behind him in sixth.
Alain Menu took eighth position but his lap was under investigation by the stewards for cutting the second chicane. Rickard Rydell, Nicola Larini and Yvan Muller rounded off the top ten with times that were much closer to the leader. The top fourteen cars were covered by less than a second.
Pierre-Yves Corthals set the fastest lap for the Independents' Trophy again, and took eleventh position overall, only six tenths behind Farfus.
This was a less eventful session; there were no dramatic incidents except for Félix Porteiro spinning into the Parabolica and planting his car in the gravel and tyre wall.
Only a few drivers cut the second chicane in this session, but all of them were called in for investigation: Corthals, Duarte Félix da Costa and Tom Coronel.
A few of the drivers had problems at the first chicane, notably Farfus and Müller, the latter hitting his team mate as he followed his slipstream.

SEAT Sport driver Gabriele Tarquini was taken to the Imola hospital after the heavy crash he was involved in at the start of today's second race.
After the first checks and X-rays were performed at the circuit medical centre, he was sent to the hospital for more accurate examinations including a Computerized Axial Tomography (CAT Scan) to his neck that was negative.
