Bereits im freien Training des 9. und damit vorletzten Rennwochenendes der FIA-GT Championshipsim französischen Nogaro zeichnete sich Robert Lechners Supertiming auf den Bildschirmen ab und bestätigte seinen Hang zur Schnelligkeit im Qualifying am Samstag.

Er fuhr gemeinsam mit Thomas Biagi (Maserati) die schnellste Rundenzeit ein. "Mein bestes Qualifyingergebnis in der FIA-GT. Keiner war schneller, als ich" strahlte der Aston Martin-Pilot (Jetalliance Racing), . nur früher dran, und das ist der bittere Beigeschmack, denn somit geht die Pole an Biagi Vitaphone Racing Team).

Gespann Karl Wendlinger und Ryan Sharp (auf Aston Martin DBR9, Jetalliance Racing) platzierten ihren Boliden, trotz 70 Kilo Platzierungsgewicht mit nur 29 Tausendstel Zeitentfernung zur Pole, auf die dritte Startposition.

Jetalliance-Team-Owner und Fahrzeugpartner von Robert Lechner, Lukas Lichtner-Hoyer sichtbar stolz: "Beide Teams unter den ersten Drei nach dem Qualifying, unglaublich."

Im Rennen sollte es am Sonntag genauso spannend weitergehen. Der fliegende Start passierte ohne definierte Startfreigabe. Sicherlich unabsichtlich fehlte das grüne Ampellicht. Lechner ergriff gleich die Führung im Getümmel der ersten Kurve und Teamkollege Karl Wendlinger verlor im Selbigen zwei Plätze. Mit Rang 5 im Gepäck übergab der Kufsteiner nach 30 Minuten, den Aston Martin an Partner Sharp.

Dieser kämpfe sich während seines Stints auf P3. Wendlinger übernahm die letzten 50 Minuten des 120minütigen Rennens und kam (mit P8) bei der Rückkehr auf den Parcours in starken Verkehr. Auch wenn das Geschwindigkeitspotenzial da war, war ein Überholen fast unmöglich und somit nur noch Platz 5 für das Duo zu erkämpfen.

Lechner, der bereits ganze 17 Runden die Spitze inne hatte, wurde von Renngegner Thomas Biagi (Maserati) aufdringlich verfolgt. Der Druck wurde dann so groß, dass der 36jährige Platz machen musste. Lechner kam als Zweitplatzierter zum ersten Boxenstopp und Lichtner-Hoyer ging ins Rennen.

Ramos (Scuderia Playteam) rammte im Verlauf des weiteren Rennens das Fahrzeug von Lichtner-Hoyer, von hinten so enorm, dass ein Superdreher den Jetalliance-Aston Martin, auf Platz 11 katapultierte. Zum Ärger des Teams. Robert Lechner löste zum letzten Stint ab und fuhr trotzdem noch einen, leider punktelosen, 9. Rang ein.

"Wir sind sehr zufrieden. Die Performance im Qualifying war super und wir haben doch im Rennen noch einiges rausgeholt. Zu guter Letzt muss man sagen, dass der eingefahrene 5. Platz unser Platzierungsgewicht für das Finale verringert hat und das bringt einen großen Vorteil." resümierte Othmar Welti, technischer Direktor Jetalliance Racing und Teamchef von Swiss Racing Team.

Es bleibt spannend beim Kampf um den Titel am finalen Wochenende (21. Oktober 2007) in Zolder (Belgien).
