Porto’s urban track, venue of tomorrow’s 100th WTCC race since its start in 2005, witnessed today how SEAT Sport achieved another pole position, third of the season, with Gabriele Tarquini at the wheel of his SEAT León TDI.
The five SEAT were able to make it to the second and decisive qualifying session, in which Tarquini was able to set the fastest time, with Yvan Muller in third position, Tiago Monteiro in sixth, while Rickard Rydell and Jordi Gené will be starting tomorrow's race from ninth and tenth position.
The free qualifying practices were not easy for the SEAT Sport team that managed to find the right setting for their cars step by step. It was the first time for the SEAT León TDI on the urban track and this special feature did not recommend taking any premature risks. Both the team and the drivers improved progressively to reach the qualifying session in best conditions, and risk it all.
The first session was dominated by Yvan Muller and Gabriele Tarquini, who led the time sheets in this order, with their team mates in 7th (Monteiro), 8th (Gené) and 10th (Rydell) position. In the definitive Q2 Session, Tarquini, who had run one fast-lap attempt less in the previous session, managed to make a perfect lap and take his second pole of the season, after the one in Cheste (Valencia).
Tom Coronel was the best of the SEAT León WTCC and the first independent driver, with Mehdu Bennani 16th, Tom Boardman 21st and rookie Diego Puyo in 24th position.
