David Philippaerts back ton top of MX1 series with impressive win in Loket

10.08.2008: David Philippaerts back ton top of MX1 series with impressive win in Loket

It is finally time to take a well deserved two week break after a hard fought Czech Grand Prix today.

With only three rounds remaining, David Philippaerts took back the MX1 red plate by winning this 12th Grand Prix from Sebastien Pourcel and Jonathan Barragan, who both crashed in the heats. Max Nagl and Steve Ramon rounded off the top five.

In MX2 Tommy Searle and Tyla Rattray ended first and second overall and took the same amount of points to leave the Championship standings with no changes-Rattray leads from Searle. Anthony Boissiere took an unexpected podium as Nicolas Aubin and Stephen Sword rounded off the top five.

MX1

Yamaha Monster Motocross’ David Philippaerts had a great day in Czech Republic as he took the GP victory and the red plate back from Teka Suzuki WMX1’s Steve Ramon, fifth overall. Despite crashing in the opening heat, the Italian recovered and took second; he wrapped up the overall by winning the final heat.

GPKR’s Sebastien Pourcel was second at his first podium appearance since France as AXO KTM Silver Action’s Jonathan Barragan rounded off the podium after he won the latest three GP’s. First moto winner Max Nagl of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing was fourth with Ramon fifth.

MX1 debutant Gregory Aranda put together a strong GP by finishing 12th overall.

Billy Mackenzie crashed in heat one when he was second; when he was taken to the nearest hospital the x-rays found no fractures.

Top five overall: 1. David Philippaerts (ITA, Yamaha), 45 points; 2. Sebastien Pourcel (FRA, Kawasaki), 38 p.; 3. Jonathan Barragan (ESP, KTM), 38 p.; 4. Maximilian Nagl (GER, KTM), 37 p.; 5. Steve Ramon (BEL, Suzuki), 36 p.

MX1 RACE 1

Nagl started strong but he lost a few positions when he had to pass through a first lap tangle; the German rode back to Barragan’s tail as the Spaniard moved up to first by exploiting a mistake of previous leader Pourcel. Nagl eventually moved to first with three minutes to go and secured the win from Barragan.

Philippaerts took an unexpected third after he recovered from a first lap crash while Ramon and Pourcel rounded off the top five. Leok was sixth ahead of Coppins who rode the whole moto with no goggles –a stone broke them at lap one.

Top five: 1. Maximilian Nagl (GER, KTM), 39:38.255; ; 2. Jonathan Barragan (ESP, KTM), +0:08.690; 3. David Philippaerts (ITA, Yamaha), +0:16.171; 4. Steve Ramon (BEL, Suzuki), +0:19.210; 5. Sebastien Pourcel (FRA, Kawasaki), +0:20.225

X1 RACE 2

The second moto was a different story for Philippaerts, who rode a flawless heat to take victory and the Grand Prix. Barragan was second when he crashed at lap two; he rode strong to recover from the bottom of the top ten to an eventual fifth.

De Dycker was third as himself, Ramon, Priem and Tanel Leok entertained the crowd with a good battle inside the top ten. Ramon followed his team mate in fourth as the duo gained one position when Coppins crashed from third.

The Kiwi finished tenth as Desalle was eighth after riding in second during the opening laps.

Top five: 1. David Philippaerts (ITA, Yamaha), 40:18.466; ; 2. Sebastien Pourcel (FRA, Kawasaki), +0:04.986; 3. Ken de Dycker (BEL, Suzuki), +0:06.206; 4. Steve Ramon (BEL, Suzuki), +0:10.184; 5. Jonathan Barragan (ESP, KTM), +0:14.943

MX2

Tommy Searle of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing brought home a hard fought GP victory from team mate and Championship leader Tyla Rattray, who took his first ever podium in Loket. The two won one moto each with Searle taking the overall by winning the final moto at the end of a dogfight with Rattray.

KTM HDI MX Team’s Anthony Boissiere was an unexpected third overall courtesy of a strong final moto which he ended in third. Last year’s winner Nicolas Aubin of Ricci Racing Yamaha rode ill today but was fourth as Molson Kawasaki’s Stephen Sword rounded off the top five.

Top five overall: 1. Tommy Searle (GBR, KTM), 47 points; 2. Tyla Rattray (RSA, KTM), 47 p.; 3. Anthony Boissiere (FRA, KTM), 36 p.; 4. Nicolas Aubin (FRA, Yamaha), 35 p.; 5. Stephen Sword (GBR, Kawasaki), 34 p.

MX2 RACE 1

Tarroux took a great start but could not hold the charge of Searle, who moved up to first and ran away with the lead. As the Frenchman dropped down to an eventual ninth Rattray stormed to Searle’s tail.

The British crashed and handed the win to Rattray, who won with a 4.5 second advantage from Searle. Aubin took third courtesy of an overtaking move on Sword, who finished fourth. Boissiere cruised in a distant fifth and kept the position until the chequered flag.

Top five: 1. Tyla Rattray (RSA, KTM), 40:20.524; ; 2. Tommy Searle (GBR, KTM), +0:04.493; 3. Nicolas Aubin (FRA, Yamaha), +0:09.888; 4. Stephen Sword (GBR, Kawasaki), +0:11.828; 5. Anthony Boissiere (FRA, KTM), +0:13.149

MX2 RACE 2

The final heat was all about the dogfight in between Searle and Rattray; the former took the lead from the start and won the heat despite the many attacks from Rattray. The two even swapped places a few times with Searle never giving up.

As the duo lost a bit of time in the fight Boissiere could keep contact with them as he finished an eventual third from Frossard and Sword. The latter took his revenge from Aubin in heat one as he moved past the Frenchman with two laps to go.

Top five: 1. Tommy Searle (GBR, KTM), 40:44.956; ; 2. Tyla Rattray (RSA, KTM), +0:11.162; 3. Anthony Boissiere (FRA, KTM), +0:14.520; 4. Steven Frossard (FRA, Kawasaki), +0:19.897; 5. Stephen Sword (GBR, Kawasaki), +0:23.158

IN THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS STANDINGS

Philippaerts is back on top of the MX1 Championship with Ramon following at a nine point distance. Coppins is third with Barragan moving up to fourth just one point adrift. De Dycker rounds off the top five ahead of Pourcel.

Top ten: 1. David Philippaerts (ITA, Yamaha), 405 points; 2. Steve Ramon (BEL, Suzuki), 398 p.; 3. Joshua Coppins (NZL, Yamaha), 370 p.; 4. Jonathan Barragan (ESP, KTM), 369 p.; 5. Billy Mackenzie (GBR, Honda), 257 p.; 10. Marc de Reuver (NED, Honda), 224 p.

Rattray is still leading the MX2 Championship from Searle, following from a 20 point distance. Both Cairoli and Simpson sat out of this GP but they remained third and fourth as Aubin moved up to fifth.

Top ten: 1. Tyla Rattray (RSA, KTM), 499 points; 2. Tommy Searle (GBR, KTM), 479 p.; 3. Antonio Cairoli (ITA, Yamaha), 357 p.; 4. Shaun Simpson (GBR, KTM), 312 p.; 5.
