Christophe Martin won in Samokov

16.06.2008: Christophe Martin won in Samokov

SAMOKOV (BULGARIA), 15 June 2008 –

Christophe Martin, Thomas Allier and Saso Kragelj were the most successful riders of the eighth event for the FIM MX3 World Championship in Bulgaria.

It was a perfect weekend in Samokov. The weather was on the limit all the time, but it held out. The race track Rido, that was in the very good conditions, brought the biggest pleasure to the team Husqvarna Sima. Both of their riders finished on the top. Thomas Allier, who took the pole position already in Saturday's Qualifying practice, won the first race, while Christophe Martin was the winner of the second race. As Martin said already after his first podium in the season, the team gives to them even more support as at the beginning of the season and they have better results.

French rider Thomas Allier was the fastest rider at the first start. Then he crashed in the third lap and Belgian rider Kristof Salaets (Honda) took the leadership. It did not last for the long time, because Allier was continuing very fast. He passed all the riders in front of him and after some laps he came back to the top. Salaets was riding on the second position till the end.

Christophe Martin finished the third. Italian rider Cristian Beggi (Honda) and Sven Breugelmans (KTM) from Belgium, who are the biggest rivals for the Championship victory at the moment, did not have the successful first race. Beggi started quite bad and at the beginning he was only 21st. Breugelmans was better. He was at the fifth position after the start. In the continuation of the first race, Breugelmans finished seventh. Beggi gained many places, he was ninth and did not lose many points against Breugelmans.

In the second race Allier started very fast, again. Even this time he did not escape to the crash. But he did not return back to the top as in the first race, because other riders had to big advantage. Martin came in front of all the riders and he was riding very reliable. Saso Kragelj (Yamaha) from Slovenia, who was fifth in the first race, had a very successful second race. He was passing riders without any problems and finished second. Kragelj also tryed to attack the leadership of Christophe Martin, but it started to rain and he did not want to risk his position. Allier was third. Salaets did not repeat the perfect first race and he finished eleventh.

The winner of the event was Christophe Martin. He is still the third rider in MX3 Championship Classification. It was his second podium in this seson, after he conquered it already in Spain. Thomas Allier was second overall. In MX3 Classification he is only four poinst behind his team colleague Martin. Kragelj was the third of the Bulgarian event.

Beggi is staying on the top of the Championship. He is leading for 21 points in front of Breugelmans, who did not satisfy his expectations and come closer to Beggi. In the next two weekends riders will have some time for recovering before the second part of the season. The next event for FIM MX3 World Championship will be on the 6th July in Markelo. Netherland.

Rider's comments:

1st – CHRISTOPHE MARTIN: »I won for the first time in MX3 World Championship and I am very happy. It was the perfect weekend for me. I would like thank to my team Husqvarna Sima for their support. I had some problems with the bike but we tryed to find the right solution. I was competing here in Samokov for the first time. At the next race in Markelo there will be completely different conditions for riding because of the different race track, but we will see what will happen.«

2nd – THOMAS ALLIER: »Today it was not easy for me. I crashed in both races after two perfect starts and of course I lost some places. Finally it worked out for the second place. I know the race track in Sevlievo, but here in Samokov it was the first time for me. The race track was very good prepared.«

3rd – SASO KRAGELJ: »I was feeling very good today and the race track was very good prepared, too. I am not satisfied with the first start but my second start was much better. I finished third overall and this is a big step for me, specially because in this season I do not have possibility to compete the whole Championship. In one month it will be my home event in Orehova vas and I am looking forward to this event.«

EMX-85 – YOUNG RIDER DENIS ULRICH CONQUER THE 7th EVENT

In the EMX-85 European Championship young rider Denis Ulrich (KTM) from Germany won the Bulgarian event. Promising youngsters had shown, that in the future they can become an important part of motocross. Ulrich won the second race, while in the first race he finished third. Italian rider Davide Cuicci (KTM) was second and Jeffrey Herlings (Suzuki) from Netherland, who was the fastest in Qualifying practice, finished third.
