The third round of the 2010 Fiesta SportTrophy International (FSTi) series got underway last night as the competition joined the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) for the 60th Neste Oil Rally Finland.  Victor Henriksson and co-driver Håkan Palm lead FSTi and the A6 class after the opening eleven stages.

Henriksson is also the winner of the third round of FST Finland and wins a set of service tools.  Jussi Kumpumäki and Jani Laaksonen were second and Joose Kojo and Sami Taskinen finished third.

A record breaking 14 entries tackled a 4.19km Super Special Stage on the outskirts of Jyväskäla in temperatures topping 35 degrees Celsius on Thursday evening.

Friday’s day of action consisted on ten stages totalling 141 km, although SS6 was stopped due to an incident in the stage.

Day 1 leader Victor Henriksson  said:

“I began driving very carefully in the morning to see the pace of the other drivers.  They were pretty fast, so I had to push more, but didn’t take as many risks as some.  I was driving at a reasonable speed and concentrating on my own rally rather than watching the stage times.

Jussi [Kumpumäki] was getting closer and closer and then I had to drive 2km with a puncture on Stage 10.  This stage had many blind crests and it was difficult to beat Jussi, who had the advantage of having done this rally last year – I wasn’t confident enough to drive flat out.  I made no mistakes and tomorrow’s route should suit me better.

It will be a good fight again and I intend increase my speed slightly.  I’m really pleased to have won Round 3 of FST Finland and I’d like to thank Vaunula Motorsport for giving all the FSTi drivers this opportunity.”
