Ford Fiesta R5 quotes Rally Mexico, section five

11.03.2018: Gus Greensmith (2nd WRC 2) said: “There were five minutes behind us and three minutes in front of us at the start of the day, so I thought I might as well use that time

Gus Greensmith (2nd WRC 2) said:

“There were five minutes behind us and three minutes in front of us at the start of the day, so I thought I might as well use that time to try a few things and get some experience for next year. We gave the soft tyres a go in the afternoon and tried to look after them as much as we could.

They went off pretty quickly so we lost a lot of time. But we had it to lose and gained a lot of experience in terms of looking after the tyres. We didn’t lose anything, but we certainly learnt something.

“Considering how rough the stages are, I wasn’t expecting the pace to be as high as it was, but Pontus has the experience and pushed really hard from the start. We came here to get some solid points and I didn’t want to risk that.

I listened to Malcolm and my Dad and did exactly what we planned to do. I’m not as close to Pontus as I could have been, but I think we can still be happy with the job we’ve done so far.”

Pedro Heller said (3rd WRC 2):

“It’s been a really long and physically hard day, but everything is going to plan and we aim to continue like this tomorrow – to keep our rhythm and keep our position.”

Marquito Bulacia (4th WRC 2) said:

“It’s been a really tough day for us with quite a lot of problems to contend with. We had some brake problems that we were able to fix, but then also some issues with the temperatures. It’s not been easy, but the most important thing is that we are here at the end of the day.”

FURTHER  INFORMATION

Nil Solans:

Solans was forced to retire for the day having damaged the front-left suspension of his Ford Fiesta R5 on SS14.
