Jens Klingmann mit Platz 3 beim Formel BMW Weltfinale in Valencia!

Formel BMW Weltfinale, Valencia / ESP (23. - 25. November 2007)

Mit Platz drei beendete der Leimener Jens Klingmann das hochwertig besetzte Formel BMW Weltfinale im spanischen Valencia. Damit beendete er eine grandiose Aufholjagd von Platz elf aus.

Als diesjähriger Meister der Formel BMW Deutschland reiste Klingmann zur dritten Auflage des Formel BMW Weltfinales, dass für den Sieger auch die einmalige Chance auf eine Formel-1-Fahrt mit dem BMW Sauber F1 Team bereit hielt.

Am Freitag, 23.11.07, standen zunächst die Freien Trainingssitzungen der 36 Piloten aus 19 Ländern auf dem Programm. Die Fahrer kamen aus der Formel BMW Deutschland, Formula BMW UK, Formula BMW USA und Formula Asia und zeigten schon dort hervorragende Leistungen.

Der 17-jährige Leimener fuhr in seinen drei Freien Trainingssitzungen zweimal die Bestzeit und kam einmal auf Platz drei. Und auch im Qualifying zeigte er seine Stärke und holte Platz 1 in seiner Gruppe!

Erst die drei Heats am Samstag und Sonntagmorgen entschieden über die Startaufstellung für das entscheidende Finale. Doch bereits im seinem ersten Heat wurde Jens um eine gute Startposition für das Formel BMW Weltfinale gebracht. Nachdem Josef Kral gleich drei Mal auf das Hinterrad von Jens Klingmann fuhr, musste dieser sein Auto mit zerfetztem Hinterreifen abstellen.

 

Vater Bert Klingmann: "Vollkommen unnötig die Aktionen von Josef Kral, der in den ersten drei Kurven nicht ein- oder zweimal auf das Hinterrad fuhr, sondern gleich dreimal. Da muss man schon Absicht unterstellen. Das letzte Mal war einmal zuviel und Jens musste den Lauf beenden."

Während Kral auf Platz zwei in Heat 1 kam, wurde Jens Klingmann letzter. Die beiden nachfolgenden Heats gewann Jens souverän und konnte eindrucksvoll seine Schnelligkeit beweisen! Durch den Ausfall bekam der Leimener allerdings zu viele Strafpunkte und startet zum Finale nur von Platz 11.

"Das ist sicherlich schade", so Jens Klingmann, "aber ich werde versuchen, die beste Leistung zu zeigen und noch ein paar Plätze nach vorne zu kommen", erklärte er vor dem Rennen.

Das Finale auf dem "Circuit de la Comunitat" dann am Sonntagnachmittag, u.a. vor den Augen von BMW Motorsportdirektor Dr. Mario Theissen und den Formel 1-Piloten Nick Heidfeld, Sebastian Vettel und Timo Glock.

Von Beginn an machte der Eifelland-Racing-Pilot viel Druck auf seine Vorderleute und fuhr Runde um Runde weiter vor. Erst auf Platz vier war seine Aufholjagd beendet, da der Abstand zum Drittplatzierten Marco Wittmann schon zu groß war.

Hinter Eng, Kral und Wittmann beendete er das Rennen zunächst auf Platz vier, rückte aber auf Platz drei vor, da Josef Kral von den Technischen Kommissaren aus der Wertung genommen wurde.

 

Klingmann zog letztlich ein positives Fazit und meinte: "Natürlich habe ich mit einem besseren Ergebnis gerechnet. Mit meiner Leistung im Finale bin ich jedoch sehr zufrieden.

Von 11 auf 3 nach vorne zu fahren, war ein hartes Stück Arbeit, zumal man auf der Stecke hier nur sehr schwer überholen kann. Wir haben auch das ganze Wochenende bewiesen, dass wir schnell sind.

Ich habe zwei Heats gewonnen. Hätte ich den ersten Heat zu Ende fahren können, wäre ein Sieg im Finale sicher drin gewesen."
