Congratulations are in order for Jazeman Jaafar, 2007 Formula BMW Asia champion!

CIMB TEAM QI-MERITUS is pleased to announce that the appeals lodged with FASC against the decisions of the stewards at Zhuhai on 4 November, 2007 have now been determined in favour of the drivers and team.

Peter Thompson and team CIMB Qi-Meritus would like to thank Y.M. Tunku Datuk Mudzaffar bin Tunku Mustapha, Chairman of AAA (The Malaysian AAA) and the BMW Asia Series for having given their support to the team following the decision of the stewards to exclude cars no 33 and 78 from the last event in Zhuhai on November 4, 2007. After the race, the team was temporarily excluded from the 2007 Formula BMW Asia Series on the grounds that the cars did not conform to technical regulations.

Peter Thompson, Founder and President of Meritus: "Following the November race, Team CIMB Qi-Meritus lodged a valid appeal to the Chinese ASN (FASC). I am very thankful that the rights of the team were finally acknowledged.

It was a long wait of several weeks until the classification was rectified by the FIA. I am pleased for the series and for the team but especially for Malaysia, for the drivers and their families, our team sponsors, fans and supporters that the matter is finally concluded.

The team always knew that our cars were in conformity with the regulations and that it had properly lodged the appeals.

We can now all move on and look forward to the series in 2008, and of course, to our full range of successful professional motor sporting activities. I would like to thank the team sponsors for their faith and confidence in our team.

Congratulations to our new Malaysian Champion Jazeman Jaafar: The decision means that Jazeman will be handed back the drivers’ title, making him not only the first Malaysian but also the youngest to win the Series. Qi-Meritus will also get the constructors’ trophy.

Team CIMB Qi-Meritus is now champion of the 2007 BMW Asia Series. Jazeman was not able to attend our conference and share our feelings today at the PJ Hilton near Kuala Lumpur because he was testing for his new team (AM-Holzer Rennsport) in Zhuhai.

The disqualification would have meant Jazeman lost out to Indonesian Zahir Ali by a single point. Now Jazeman wins the title with a 44-point margin! Jazeman, you are the 2007 Champion and we at CIMB Qi-Meritus are proud of you. Good luck in your future career!"

Firhat Mokhzani, Team Manager & Managing Director:"We are so pleased and happy with the decision of the FIA since this matter was going on for a long time.

It’s great that Jazeman is the champion because he truly deserves the title and will be a great Ambassador for Malaysia"
