Young British racing driver, Mike Meadows, is aiming to climb onto the top step of the podium at Croft this weekend in the Formula BMW championship. The 18-year-old has been one of the top three racers in six out of the ten rounds he’s contested this year, but he hasn’t taken outright victory yet. The Banbury-based driver is hoping to change this at the Yorkshire circuit, as he bids for the championship title.

"I haven’t had a win this season and I need to make it happen" says Meadows. "We’re halfway through the championship and I’ve been close quite a few times, but I just haven’t had my day. We had two good races at Croft last year and with this track experience I should be able to challenge for the lead, but I’m up against a strong field of drivers particularly the other front runners, Niall Breen, Euan Hankey and Olly Oakes. As always, qualifying will be important. Last year I was on the front row for both races, so that’s where I should be this time. The race down to the first corner is always one of the hardest, so the further up the grid I am the better it will be."

"We tested a couple of weeks ago and after changing engines for the afternoon session, we improved from 12th fastest to 2nd quickest. I’d thought we had an engine problem and I think we proved this with the substantial improvement in pace that I found. This has given me plenty of confidence in the package we now have for this weekend and I’m looking forward to using it to the best advantage in the races."

Meadows was Rookie Cup runner up in the Formula BMW UK championship last year and is currently lying third in the overall championship. Driving for Masters Motorsport, he has scored four second places and two third places from ten starts, with three front row grid slots. Ten rounds of the championship have been completed so far, with another ten to be contested in the remainder of the season.
