Colombian Carlos Gaitan wins also Sunday races
With a series of 3 victories Carlos Gaitan saves the lead in Formula Cup Mallorca. Not just his both attractive wins of Race 2 and Race 3 – he took on Sunday – brought best fun for the spectators. The 17-years old is a real Sunnyboy and quite likeable with it. For Race 2 on Sunday Corlas was on Pole, next to him Otto Birznieks. The third row chaired Pedro Mas Manseras with Lucian Toth. The drivers raced with discipline into the first difficult corner and the front-guys still hold the positions. Carlos before Otto and Lucian. Pedro Mas Manseras followed at Position 4. The double-winner of the first race-weekend wanted to score after his breakedown from Saturday, but he couldn’t keep the gap to the Top-3. Otto Birznieks could`t hold his second place before Lucian so far: Lucian overtook him, but one lap later Otto passed him again at the same point. It was lap 7 when Otto Beiznieks breaked to late at the hair-pin and he lost two positions. The order one lap later: Carlos Gaitan leads before Lucian Toth, Pedro Mas Manseras, Otto Birznieks and Florian Schwarzenbilder. Rumanien Lucian Toth wasn’t able to go along the speed of Carlos Gaitan in the last third of the race. He let the Colombian go for the victory. Besides Carlos took the extra-point with his best-lap which he raced in the last lap. Behind the first two – Pedro Mas Manseras rescued his 3.place to the finish before Otto Birznieks. Again the Latvian couldn’t hold his second starting-place: "I drive fast but a get in trouble with other drivers every time and I am still the underdog at the moment. I really wish not to have any trouble in Race 3 and I am driving more aggressive now". Race 3 Otto’s wish did not come true – also in Race 3: The usual Colombian-Latvian first row, in person of Carlos and Otto also stayed in this order after the first lap. The best drivers of the first race-weekend Pedro Mas Manseras and Jackie Weiss were in the second row after "…finding nearly the right line for the new track-version now!" how both said. Pedro holds his third Position after the start. Jackie must range in the field at Position 5 behind Lucian Toth.
It looked like favourite Otto Birznieks was really confused about the dominance from Carlos at this weekend. By trying to practise some pressure to the leading Colombian, Otto spooned by himself in the beginning of Race 3, too. He felt back until Position 8. But the 16-years old pupil with the blond hears did not cheat us about his statement to drive aggressive. It was first the middle of the race when he already reached Position 4 again after overtaking in a way without any compromise. Just before Otto, Pedro and Lucian were fighting and leading Carlos Gaitan played out his experience. He used the fighting drivers to make some meters to the following guys and won in style. The win of the 17-years old in race 3 was controlled but it was also hard-earnt. Behind leading Gaitan a fight breaked out: With angriness in his stomach Otto Birznieks wasn’t to stop when he overtook two drivers by breaking at the hair-pin: Pedro Mas Manseras and Lucian Toth were really surprised about the bold action of the pupil from Riga. Nevertheless Otto Birznieks became second with it. With his fastest-lap he also took one extra-point. Finally Pedro Mas Manseras finished third, Lucian Toth finished fourth and Florian Schwarzenbilder finished 5.
Driver of the Weekend: # Carlos Gaitan (COL): "Sure the weekend looks dominant for me but I was only extremely concentrated. In converse to Otto I only did no mistakes because he had the nearly the same speed. Important for me is to lead the championship."; comments Carlos his Gala-Presentation which he wants to repeat the next raceweekend on march 3./4. The Colombian saved 35 of 36 possible points. But looking to the exiting races of the Youngster, he should not feel to save. Lucian Toth is second (21 points) and Otto Birznieks is third (19 points).
