Latvian Otto Birznieks celebrates his first victory
„Finitely – my first victory!" screamed the delivered Otto Birznieks after his first win in Formula Cup Mallorca. The favourite named pupil from Riga showed his high speed in every race until now. This time he brought it all to one point and he beaten championship-leader Carlos Gaitan – and this also in Qualifying after his nice Pole-Position. Carlos Gaitan didn’t finish the race after a spectacular crash, even so he will be one Pole-Position for one of the both Sunday-races. With a lap of 1.17,678 Minutes had Otto an advance of just 0,034 seconds in the Qualifying. Next to him in the first row was championship-leader Carlos Gaitan from Columbia. The second row shared Lucian Toth (RUM) with Pedro Mas Manseras (ESP). It was still in the grid when both declared a victory as their aim. They took the first step to the victory still at the start when they ruled out Carlos Gaitan from his second place. The Colombian returned to place 4 with burning tyres. Otto Birznieks turned into the first corner as first, than Lucian Toth and Pedro Mas Manseras. Florian Schwarzenbilder followed after this leading group on position 5 - than Joe Schmitz and Jackie Weiss. Already the third lap should have been one of the most important: At first the third Pedro Mas Manseras used the slipstream to overtake Lucian Toth at the straight. Shortly after them drove championship-leader when his front-break fallen through. Gaitan couldn’t react and hit Pedro Mas Manseras into the side when the Spanish turned into the hair-pin right after he overtook Lucian Toth. „Certainly Carlos didn’t want this, but it is angry for me and for him. We both were good for the victory, now we gave away important points" said disappointed Pedro Mas Manseras. He and also Carlos Gaitan loosed the important points toward Birzniks und Lucian Toth. They made out the victory among themselves. But at no point the Start-/Finish-victory from Otto in danger. Constantly he holds the gap of one second to Lucian, who was – surprising – pleased with the second place, after he was still good for spectacular spoons the last races.
Behind this both it seemed like no driver wanted to allocate the third place. After the double-breakdown, in person of Carlos Gaitan and Pedro Mas Manseras, it was at first young Florian Schwarzenbilder who raced on Position 3 a long time. Still celebrating his 15.birthday right at the last days Florian gets better more and more: His talent was discovered already some weeks ago, therefore he is one of two supported-driver at the Formula Cup Mallorca. By his hard approach to catch the both first, it was his high talent which went out – than the track! He overdrove his Formula-Junior and turned around, but he could continue the race as Fifth. But it looked also that Jackie Weiss didn’t want to become third: She turned around after the first corner as well when she fights with Joe Schmitz about position 3. The Luxembourg was pleased about this when he recognized that Jackie is not in his mirror any more. Joe took down his speed and brought home the third place. After one lap Jackies car was rescued and she finished the race yet on position 6. So after 14 absolutely exiting laps the result is: Otto Birznieks with his first win, Lucian Toth, Joe Schmitz, Florian Schwarzenbilder. Fifths become Max Mayer, the son of the Ex-STW-driver Oliver Mayer, who raced his first car-race generally. Jackie Weiss become 6. ahead of Andreas John in the VIP-Car. The vicarious chief-editor of the famous "Mallorca-Zeitung" raced also his first car-race without any mistake as he finished without any spoon. „I simple feel so well after this amazing and indescribable weekend." said Andreas about his experience. On Sunday will hold championship-races 5 and 6. Championship-leader Carlos Gaitan saved the Pole-Position for the first race. He wants to forget his breakout with a race-win. The pole-position for the other race had Otto Birznieks. Also for Sunday temperatures of nearly 30 degrees are pronounced. "Driving is much more stressful at this hotness. Luckily we had the „Fitness und Sport Seminar" this race-weekend which GU-Racing prepared every race-weekend for us driver." said Jackie Weiss with a smiling face.
# Otto Birznieks: „Finially! My first victory, this feeling is so freeing. I did nothing else than the races before. I tried only to race fast. I was very fast before as well, but there was something or someone in my way every time which hindered my win."
