ART Grand Prix Istanbul

ISTANBUL, GP2 Series – 10 et 11 MAI 2008

Après des débuts délicats à Barcelone deux semaines plus tôt, ART Grand Prix quitte la Turquie à la 2è place des deux championnats conducteurs et équipes, grâce aux deux podiums de Romain Grosjean. Le Français, qui s’élançait de la 4è place de la grille de départ dans la première course, s’est immédiatement propulsé en 2è position derrière Pantano et a brillamment résisté au rapide et expérimenté Andreas Zuber, sans jamais offrir à son adversaire l’occasion de porter une attaque.

Septième sur la grille de départ de la manche dominicale, Romain a doublé un à un ses rivaux pour s’emparer du commandement et s’adjuger sa première victoire dans le championnat GP2 Europe.

Le week-end de Luca Filippi a pris une mauvaise tournure lorsque l’Italien s’est positionné au 18è rang de la première grille de départ après avoir rencontré des problèmes en qualifications. 16è et 14è sous le drapeau à damiers, Luca a ponctuellement roulé dans le même rythme que les leaders mais n’avait pas la partie facile en partant d’aussi loin.

« Le week-end a mal débuté car nous avons rencontré des problèmes lors des qualifications avec mon 2è train de pneus et alors que les autres amélioraient leur temps d’une seconde, je restais scotché avec mon premier chrono. Au départ de la première course, une mauvaise manœuvre a déclenché le mode de sécurité du moteur…

Le lendemain j’étais 10è à la fin du premier tour ; je pense que nous avions le potentiel pour marquer des points mais j’ai fait un plat sur un pneu en dépassant Nunès. J’avais des vibrations et j’ai suis parti plusieurs fois à la faute. C’est dommage car mon rythme était bon ce week-end, l’égal de celui de Pantano et Zuber dans la première course par exemple.

Félicitations à Romain pour sa splendide victoire. ART Grand Prix travaille bien et j’espère que mon véritable départ dans le championnat se fera à Monaco, un circuit que j’apprécie et où j’étais rapide l’année dernière. »

« Je devais apprendre l’Istanbul Park mais les qualifications se sont plutôt bien passées, même si je regrette que des drapeaux jaunes m’aient empêché de me battre pour une place sur la première ligne. Dans la première course, la plus grande partie du travail était faite à partir du moment où j’avais pris un excellent départ. J’ai ensuite couru sur le mode défensif pour résister à Zuber qui était manifestement plus rapide que moi. Je me suis concentré pour ne pas commettre la moindre faute car la plus petite aurait permis à Andreas de me passer. L’écurie a fait un très bon pit stop et je suis ressorti devant lui.

La seconde course était vraiment très agréable. J’ai pris un excellent départ qui m’a permis de gagner plusieurs places ; le sentiment au volant était fabuleux car nous avions réglé nos petits problèmes de set-up de la veille et je savais que j’étais plus rapide que les pilotes qui me précédaient. Les résultats de ce week-end sont excellents pour l’écurie, c’est une belle récompense, mais nous devons continuer de travailler pour parvenir à débuter le week-end en étant aussi forts qu’à la fin. »

« Le week-end de Romain s’approche de la perfection, ce qui est d’autant plus appréciable que le circuit d’Istanbul n’est pas le plus facile du calendrier. Il a énormément progressé entre les essais libres et la deuxième course pour finir le week-end sur une excellente note, sa première victoire dans le championnat GP2 Europe. C’est un grand résultat et globalement le week-end est extrêmement positif. Romain a su défendre sa position lorsqu’il le fallait, puis attaquer et dépasser le dimanche.

Luca a vécu un week-end difficile et c’est très dommage car sa vitesse de course était parfois équivalente à celle des meilleurs. Mais notre niveau de performance devrait l’aider à réunir les morceaux du puzzle rapidement et à obtenir les résultats qu’il et que l’écurie méritent. »
