Barwa International Campos Team: Wheel of fortune in the exciting second race at Magny-Cours

New signing in the Barwa International Campos Team, Lucas di Grassi has once more achieved a great result, finishing fourth in the second race at Magny Cours, in an exciting race where the outcome was conditioned by the variable weather conditions.

The race started on a very wet circuit. For this same reason the first 10 drivers on the grid started with wet tyres, and those drivers that were closer to the back of the starting line-up decided to take the risk driving with slicks.

The drying track meant that those who did take the risk came up trumps. We must take into account that the Barwa International Campos Team had decided to follow the weather forecast given to the teams in the Renault set up. Like all the teams who started with wets, the team was forced to go into the pits for a change of tyres which obviously was a setback to their chances.

Both drivers of the Barwa International Campos Team made magnificent starts with Vitaly 4th and di Grassi 5th on the first lap. On the second lap they improved their positions; Petrov was now 2nd and Lucas 3rd. Vitaly Petrov went on to actually lead the race but each driver had different strokes of luck when changing the wet tyres they had fitted at the start of the race.

Lucas di Grassi was the first driver to come into the pits to change tyres on lap 6, just as the track was beginning to dry. When he left the pits he had dropped down to 10th but it was from this moment that he started to climb through the field in an exciting fight back which culminated in overtaking Parente for the 5th spot with four laps to go and doing the same to Senna for the 4th position on the penultimate lap. He tried to get past Filippi on the last lap, attacking where he could, and was just a whisker away from achieving a second consecutive podium. At the end of the race he finished first of the drivers who were forced to come in for a change of tyres.

Vitaly Petrov had the worst of it, at the moment of his change of tyres, as he was forced to come into the pits when leading the race and he came back on track in a lowly 12th place.

TV images showed clearly how Vitaly´s manager, Oksana Kotaschenko complained bitterly to Team Head Adrián Campos about Petrov´s bad luck, as it started to rain lightly just as he came in to change for slicks. If that wasn´t enough he was involved in an accident caused by Pantano, leaving the Italian out of the race and Petrov with his car so damaged that he was forced to fight just to keep his car on the track.

Despite Vitaly´s bad luck, Barwa International Campos Team can feel more than satisfied with this weekend´s results. Vitaly Petrov has climbed to 7th place in the race for the driver´s championship with his hopes alive in his fight for the title.

Lucas di Grassi has picked up an impressive 11 points in only one weekend and after just one appearance this season has helped push the team right there near the top of the team rankings. The team of Adrian Campos with a total of 16 points in France has meant that they are now up there in the race for the team title.

The next race will take place the weekend 5th-7th of July at the Silverstone Circuit in the UK racing the same weekend as F1.
