Petrov improves 14 positions and di Grassi crashes out after beng hit by Maldonado

2ND RACE HOCKENHEIM 20.07.08

An unlucky race for the Barwa International Campos Team in the 2nd GP2 race at the German circuit of Hockenheim. Despite the great fightback of Vitaly Petrov he was unable to get into the points and Lucas Di Grassi didn’t finish the race due to a mistake of one of his rivals.

Lucas Di Grassi made possibly the best start of the season so far improving four positions and getting to the the first bend as leader of the race. Unfortunately he crashed out very early on after being hit in the back by Maldonado which has put a brake on his magnificent progress in the overall driver’s championship.

Until now he had achieved three second places and one fourth position in the four races in which he had taken part and if you include his fifth position of yesterday he had scored points in all the races so far this season.

Vitaly Petrov started from 26th and last position on the starting grid partly due to being sanctioned. This did not however stop him from climbing through the field and he made up fourteen places.

Unfortunately, this was not enough to get him into the points although it would be true to say that he improved his performance compared to yesterday. Due to having to work his tyres very hard in the first part of the race it meant that in the last few laps he had very little grip.

Despite all this Di Grassi holds on to his overall fourth place in the race for the driver´s title. Petrov is still in the top ten and Barwa International Campos Team remains in third spot in the constructor´s championship.

After having passed the halfway point of season, the championship moves on to Budapest, Hungary the weekend 2nd and 3rd of August.
