The Piquet Sports driver plans on reaching the podium in both runs
Next weekend the GP2 series stops, on the occasion of the Formula 1 Grand Prix, in Silverstone with runs nine and ten on the classic and extremely fast English circuit.
Last year things went excellently for the 24-year-old Styrian there. After having reached the pole position in the qualifying he celebrated a superior victory, including fastest lap, ahead of Brit Mike Conway. At the sprint race the Moser Medical Group-driver also scored points by finishing sixth.
Therefore Zuber has every reason to be optimistic for Silverstone: "I feel quite at home on this circuit. I simply love the combination of fast turns – it is really a lot of fun driving there. And it doesn’t matter whether it has typically British weather of if it turns out to be hot as hell. Thanks to my fitness-guru Erwin Göllner I feel in perfect shape. The right strategy should win us podium places."
Zuber who had been fifth in the first race in Magny Cours despite a problem at the start, has meticulously gone thorugh all data, including the ones of the sprint race he finished in eighth place, together with his Brazilian racing engineer Felipe Vargas: "We had electronics problems that hampered our start. Additionally our choice of dampers wasn’t optimal, which proved to be a disadvantage at the beginning of the run. Only later on, when I drove fastest laps, things went better. But now I’m confident for Silverstone that we will get better to grips with this situation, especially at the start."
In order to be perfectly prepared for Silverstone, Zuber has undergone a very tough physical preparation program and therefore will be in top shape for England: "If everything fits and the team assists with the technical development and a fast pit stop it should work out fine. So far we usually took a step forward but sometimes one back again or else we should already have reached a podium place in Magny Cours."
The circuit in Silverstone is 5.141 kilometres long.
Driver overall standings in the GP2 (after eight runs): 01. Giorgio Pantano 35 points, 2. Bruno Senna 28, 3. Sebastian Buemi 20, 4. Romain Grosjean and Alvaro Parente 19 each, 6. Pastor Maldonado 18, 7. Andreas Zuber and Vitaly Petrov 17 points each.
