UAE driver Andreas Zuber qualifying review

UAE driver Andreas Zuber qualifying review

06.06.2009: UAE driver Andreas Zuber arrived in Turkey fresh from the Monaco Grand Prix where he scored eight points, determined to have another strong weekend for his team, FMSI.

UAE driver Andreas Zuber arrived in Turkey fresh from the Monaco Grand Prix where he scored eight points, determined to have another strong weekend for his team, FMSI.

"I have always scored points on this track and I like it here," Zuber said. "I had a really positive feeling for Team FMSI's work and I was really looking forward to the race. The main problem was to fix the tyre degradation problems after Monaco and I was hoping that the engineers would have found a solution."

Andreas progressed during the free practice session at Istanbul and improved consistently during the 30-minute session, finishing fifth.

In qualifying Andreas was just as competitive and will start tomorrow's first race from the third row in sixth place (1.34.922).

Andreas explained, "The car was good. I was 9th when I stopped after the first outing and I had clocked 1.35.379 behind Petrov who was the fastest with 1.34.713. I was third with 1.34.922 when I restarted and then Hulkenberg and Filippi came from nowhere and  topped the session which means that I qualified  in sixth position. This is really a one-lap tyre circuit in these warm conditions.

"There were lots of yellow flags during this session so it was not easy to go for a good time. Overall, it went well, but the car was a bit difficult to drive during the session. I was losing time in the second sector on the famous turn eight. Then on one bump I almost lost the car.

Without testing it is hard to make the car progress. But let's see what we can do tomorrow in the 34-lap race. I am a bit preoccupied with tyre degredation especially if they do not last more than ten laps. If I nurse the tyres properly and drive like if I was in a rally and on ice then  for sure, there will be no more problems! We must  score points tomorrow and in the race 2 as well.

I really think that we deserve a good race with FMSI."
