Start von Jan Seyffarth mit Pontiac bei Grand Am in Miami

Jan Seyffarth wird am kommenden Wochenende, 27.-29. März 2008, beim ersten Rennen der US-amerikanischen Grand AM Series auf dem Homestead Miami Speedway in einem Pontiac starten.

Im werksunterstützten Team von Matt Connolly Motorsports wird der Querfurter im 420 PS starken Pontiac GTO.R beim Saisonauftakt der Grand AM Rolex Sports Car Series zusammen mit Teamkollege Diego Alessi ins Rennen gehen.

Nach den erfolgreichen DTM-Sichtungstest von Audi im spanischen Almeria kam Mitte März die Einladung von Matt Connolly Motorsports zu einem Test in Savannah (Georgia).

"Der Test verlief sehr gut", so Jan Seyffarth, „ich kam schnell mit dem Pontiac zurecht. Am Anfang musste ich mich umstellen, denn das Auto fährt sich anders als ein Porsche. Mit meinen Zeiten bin ich recht zufrieden gewesen!" Und dies bestätigte auch Eric Burch von Matt Connolly Motorsports: „Jan hat einen exzellenten Job gemacht hat, wenn man bedenkt, dass er das erste Mal Auto im gesessen hat und noch nie auf dem Roebling Road Ring gefahren ist.

Er war außergewöhnlich schnell, sogar so schnell, wie noch niemals ein Rolex GT Auto auf dieser Strecke zuvor. Er fuhr am Ende des Tages eine Zeit von 1:09,5. Er machte den ganzen Tag über keinen einzigen Fehler und fuhr konstant in den 1:09er Zeiten. Ebenso entwickelte Jan das Setup des Fahrzeugs sehr gut weiter, dass er mit schnellen Zeiten beweisen konnte."

Teamchef Matt Connolly war stolz zu sehen, wie schnell Jan auf Anhieb war und hofft nun auf ein gutes Ergebnis am Wochenende. „Jan hat mich von Anfang an beeindruckt, denn er hielt seinen Speed von der zweiten Runde den ganzen Tag hindurch. Ich war sehr stolz zu sehen, wie schnell Jan den GTO.R um die Strecke bewegt."

Das Rennen am Wochenende wird nun auch ein Gradmesser sein, wie es in der Zukunft von Jan Seyffarth weiter geht. „Ich denke, wenn alles gut geht, dann habe ich auch eine Chance auf eine Zukunft in der Grand Am und könnte dort weitere Rennen für das Team bestreiten!"

Der Pontiac GTO.R hat eine sehr erfolgreiche Tradition: Bei 23 teilgenommenen Rennen holte er 23 Podiumsplätze und davon 11 Siege! Diese Tradition versucht das Team nun fortzuführen.

Nach dem Rennen wird Jan Seyffarth nach Deutschland zurück fliegen und im Porsche bei den Testtagen auf dem EuroSpeedway im Auto sitzen. Sollte es zu einem Engagement bei Matt Connolly Motorsports kommen, wird er im nächsten Rennen in Mexiko erneut am Start sein und danach direkt das nächste Rennen eine Woche später in Virginia bestreiten.
