The demanding track of Spa-Francorchamps, stage of the third round of the International GT Open Championship, confirms the constant progresses showed by GPC Squadra Corse during the last months.
The Aredennes track, traditionally characterized by variable weather conditions, proposed the tyres´ choice dilemma once more in race one. In a roulette of clouds and sun spells, the choice of slick tyres has been the right one but it was unfortunately against rain expectations of GPC technicians.
Race two lived a great performance by the Italo-Spanish team that without being bumped in the final stages would have probably concluded fourth, right at the feet of the podium. A little bit of disappointment was felt therefore at the chequered flag for the seventh position, but it has been softened by the consciousness of being competitive throughout the race.
Gianpaolo Coppi (Team Owner):
"The analysis of our performances gives me a firm optimism. Since the beginning of the season we have improved a lot both on the race pace and on the single lap. Certainly, we have a lot of work to do before aiming concretely at the victory but we committed our efforts in the right direction.
I think that, realistically, we could reach the objective of being constantly within the fight for the podium by the end of the championship: meanwhile we have to be satisfied by that reliability that took our cars to always cross the finish line."
