Scuderia Playteam SaraFree’s strong driver line up is set for new International GT Open season start The 2008 International GT Open season kicks off this weekend in Vallelunga near Rome, for the first race of the season on Sunday April 20, 2008.
Scuderia Playteam SaraFree's driver line up for the 2008 GT Open season will be Andrea Montermini and Michele Maceratesi in one of the blue and silver Ferrari F430s and Miguel Giao and Pedro Couceiro at the wheel of the other F430. Scuderia Playteam SaraFree was the winner of the overall title in 2006 and of the GTA and Teams Cups in 2007 after Montermini and Maceratesi won their GT Open category (GTA) with 65 points. Scuderia Playteam SaraFree enters the 2008 season with high hopes, and will trust the same drivers to successfully defend their title. "I am delighted to be part of Scuderia Playteam SaraFree for the third year. It feels like being at home," says Michele Maceratesi. "It goes without saying that I want to finish the upcoming season in the lead and as a winner. Everything is in place to allow me go do so I am really looking forward to a season with the team. I'm really happy to be teaming up again with Andrea Montermini and we'll be going all out to take victory in the opening round of the new season." Andrea Montermini commented, "It is a great honour to be back in such a strong team like Scuderia Playteam SaraFree. I'm confident that we will score lots of points again starting with the first race of the season and aim to do the same if not better than last season and go one better with the overall championship win too. I can't wait to get behind the wheel again." Pedro Couceiro comes from the Spanish GT Championship and commented, "I have already been with Scuderia Playteam SaraFree in 2006 so know that it is a very professional team. We want to score as many wins as possible. It is thrilling to know that we will try to compete with the best drivers with one of the best teams in the paddock." Also from the Spanish GT Championship, Manuel Giao commented, "Scuderia Playteam SaraFree feels like a family and Giambattista Giannoccaro, the team owner is something of a father figure to me. After the experience and results in the Spanish GT Championship in 2006 I am very happy to be driving again under the Playteam SaraFree colours. I'm very excited to be teaming up with Pedro Couceiro. I am certain that this is a top flight way to start another excellent season." The strength of this season's line up is clearly demonstrated by the past performances of the drivers. In 2007, Scuderia Playteam SaraFree finished the GT Open season on a very positive note with Andrea Montermini-Michele Maceratesi champions of their category GTA with 65 points, visiting the podium five times with three wins at Vallelunga, Ochsersleben, and Brands Hatch and two second places at Monza, and Catalunya. In addition there were a total of four pole positions for each of the two drivers at Vallelunga, Ochsersleben, Brands Hatch, and Monza.
For the team overall there were a total of nine wins and five poles for the season. In the second Ferrari F430, the Portuguese duo of Pedro Couceiro and Manuel Giao will bring with them an impressive set of accomplishments.
