* Prize money of €100,000 makes this one of the most lucrative technology prizes worldwide
Deutsche Messe Hannover has announced the 2009 HERMES AWARD, its prestigious International Technology Prize for industry. Eligible for the €100,000 Award are manufacturers of outstanding innovations that are being exhibited for the first time at HANNOVER MESSE.
The HERMES AWARD is one of the most generously endowed international industry prizes, and represents a tremendous publicity boost for the winning company and runners-up. The Award's distinguished patrons are Germany's Education Minister Dr. Annette Schavan and the Premier of Lower Saxony, Christian Wulff.
"Each year's entries for the HERMES AWARD continue to underline the vital role of HANNOVER MESSE as a driver of innovations. We are already looking forward to the entries for the coming year. For small technology-led firms in particular, the HERMES AWARD is a great opportunity to attract broad public attention", says Dr. Wolfram von Fritsch, Chairman of the Board of Management at Deutsche Messe AG.
In order to qualify for the award, the submitted products must have undergone industrial trials and/or already be in production, and must be particularly innovative in terms of their technological and commercial benefits. All the products nominated for the 2009 HERMES AWARD will be on display at HANNOVER MESSE from 20 to 24 April 2009. Visitors can see them in Hall 2 as part of the trade fair Research & Technology.
The competition is open to companies and organizations that will be presenting innovative products as registered exhibitors at HANNOVER MESSE 2009. All entry documents must be received by 18 February 2009. Further information about the Award, as well as the terms and conditions of participation, are available online at www.hermesaward.com.
The prize presentation for the 2009 HERMES AWARD takes place as part of the formal opening ceremony for next year's HANNOVER MESSE on 19 April 2009. The Federal Minister for Education and Research, Dr. Annette Schavan, will present the prizes to the winner and runners-up in the presence of the Federal Chancellor, Dr. Angela Merkel, and the Premier of Lower Saxony, Christian Wulff.
An independent jury under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Wahlster, Director and Chairman of the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), will choose the winning entry.
Last year's winner was Zenergy Power GmbH (formerly Trithor GmbH), based in Rheinbach, which won the Award for its joint development, together with Bültmann GmbH in Neuenrade, of an innovative induction heater. "Winning the prestigious HERMES AWARD last year really brought our HTS induction heater to the attention of the daily and business press.
High-temperature superconductors (HTS) transmit electricity without power losses, thereby reducing energy consumption on a permanent basis. The extensive press coverage led to greater public awareness of one of the key technologies of the 21st century.
We ourselves saw a lot more visitors at our stand at HANNOVER MESSE. And the number of inquiries after the show also increased dramatically", reports Jürgen Kellers, Sales Director at Zenergy Power.
