The "MAROC CLASSIC - Road of the Heart" has its loyal fans, people who have taken part almost every year since the event began in 1993. For those enering for the first time, however, an unforgettable experience awaits and they, too, will surely want to return.
Newcomers to the "MAROC CLASSIC" will discover that Morocco is the country where driving best combines pleasure and entertainment. This is truly a paradise, whether you drive a gorgeous classic or a prestigious and powerful modern GT.
The amazing diversity of venues and scenery provides never-ending wonder, while - thanks to the valued cooperation of the local authorities - the varied road network offers a taste of driving as it used to be.
The 2009 event will be very different from its predecessors, although the route will again be all-asphalt, passing through scenery of haunting beauty and infinite variety. Split into seven legs, it will - as usual - start from Casablanca, economic capital of the kingdom, and finish in Marrakech.
The 2,350 km route, with overnight halts in Fes, Bin El Ouidane, Ouarzazate, Tiznit, and Agadir, includes 19 regularity road tests on which participants will fight tooth and nail for tenths of a second to test the accuracy of their timekeeping.
To ensure the welfare of our participants, we have selected the very best overnight halts, places where you can enjoy the friendship and welcome of the kingdom. This friendly reception has greatly enhanced the excellent reputation of the "MAROC CLASSIC".
The 2008 "MAROC CLASSIC" is open to 70 crews, of which two thirds will be historic cars (1930-1982) and one third will participate in the "Prestige" category, for modern GT cars built since 1983, which has its own separate results. Novices can take part in a Regularity training course on the eve of the event.
To take advantage of the reduced-rate entry fee, you must register before 15 September 2008. The fee will be less than 10,000 Euros per crew all inclusive (not including petrol). As usual, car transportation is available from and to different European cities.
The cover design for the MOROCCO CLASSIC 2009 (a JPEG is available on request) was created by the famous Moroccan painter Hassan EL GLAOUI, whose works are internationally known and recognised.
Son of the pasha of Marrakech, Thami El Glaoui, Hassan was not stereotyped by his social status. Born in 1924 amid olive groves, gardens and a magnificent view of the Atlas Mountains, he focused on painting from an early age, encouraged by General Goodyear, founder of the New York Museum of Modern Art.
He went to Paris in 1950 and enrolled at the National School of Fine Arts, staging his first exhibition at the Andrew Weill Gallery. More exhibitions followed in Paris, New York, Brussels, London and Casablanca. An El Glaoui painting is first and foremost about "atmosphere" and emotion, whether his subjects are horses, intimate portraits or still lifes.
