Pirelli will offer a unique new prize to the winner of the Sanremo Historic Rally next week, round two of the FIA European Historic Rally Championship.
 


The winner will receive free tyres for the event, provided that they have used the new P7 Corsa Classic tyre that won on its debut with Carlos Sainz in Spain two weeks ago. The winning driver will also be required to carry Pirelli decals on the event and wear a Pirelli cap. If all these conditions are met, there will be no charge for the tyres at the end of the rally.
 

The new P7 Corsa Classic combines legendary design with modern technology, allowing drivers to safely make the most of their spectacularly powerful rally cars from the 1970s and the 1980s. The P7 Corsa Classic, which is available for asphalt only, comes in a number of different sizes but just one tread pattern that is capable of dealing with conditions that range from dry asphalt to torrential rain, depending on the compound.
 

This makes the tyre – which is fully homologated for road use and meets the latest environmental standards – suitable for a wide variety of some of the most legendary rally cars, such as the Audi Quattro, Fiat 131 Abarth, Lancia 037 (which finished on the podium on the Rallye Historico de Espana using the P7 Corsa Classic), Lancia Stratos, Opel Ascona, Opel Manta, Porsche and Talbot Sunbeam.
 

Pirelli will bring its entire range of 15-inch and 16-inch P7 Corsa Classic tyres to the Sanremo Historic Rally next week, enabling all the drivers to have the ideal tyre for all conditions. The compounds available are D3 (for dry conditions) D5 (for mixed conditions) and W5 (for wet conditions).
 

Pirelli’s product manager Terenzio Testoni, who has more than 15 years of World Rally Championship experience behind him, will be on hand throughout the Sanremo event to provide tyre and set-up advice to Pirelli customers.


He said: “The P7 Corsa Classic breaks new ground, as it can deal with the high performance of these phenomenal cars to give the driver total control, no matter what the surface or weather conditions are like.


We are delighted to offer free tyres to the winner of the Sanremo Historic Rally: an event that has formed a key part of Pirelli’s history, where we have had victories with the calibre of drivers like Colin McRae and Markku Alen. This rally is still a huge challenge, but with the P7 Corsa Classic, drivers have the best possible equipment with which to frame up to it.”

Compounds:
 
D3 – hard compound suitable for use on stages longer than 20 kilometres and abrasive asphalt with temperatures in excess of 25 degrees centigrade.


D5 – medium compound suitable for use on stages with medium asphalt and temperatures ranging from 10 to 25 degrees centigrade.


W5 – wet compound that is intended mainly for wet conditions but also works well in mixed conditions and also in dry conditions with a maximum temperature of 10 degrees centigrade as front fitment to rear-engined cars (Porsche 911, Lancia Stratos)

1.8 on the front and 1.6 at the back (Porsche-Lancia Stratos-Lancia 037) 2.2 maximum at the end of the stage.
