The team ASM Motorsport has demonstrated once again everything his potential on having achieved his three vehicles to place between the nine classified first ones of the general scratch of the Rally Costa Brava.
Antonio Sainz and Javier Cattaneo (Porsche 911) were signing the obtained Championship three weeks ago in the Spanish Cup of Historic Cars, with the third position of the general. For your part Ferran Font and Oriol Julià (Ford Escort) were qualifying in the third position of the Category 2, sixth absolute. While, Carles Palou and Albert García (Ford Escort) were finishing in the ninth position of the general, quarters of the Category 3.
58 edition of the Rally Costa Brava was changing his habitual format remaining reserved only to the historical vehicles, being to count for the FIA European Historic Rally Championship and for the Spanish and Catalonia Championships of Regularity Sport. The test was recovering his more European spirit of the eighties when the participation of called Group B of the first generation (Manta 400, 037 Rally, 308 GTB,) it was allowed.
These cars will be able to compete in a habitual way in the contest from 2012. The rally was consisting of two stages and ten timed sections, adding a total of four hundred eighty seven kilometres of tour, of which hundred forty eight were corresponding to the speed sections.
On Friday evening / night there was disputed the first stage composed by two tours to the sections of ‘Cladells’ and ‘Collsaplana’. After these two sections the pilots of team ASM Motorsport were occupying the third (Sainz-Cattaneo), the fourth (Font-Julià) and the seventh (Palou-García) position of the general when on returning to Lloret de Mar, adding in addition an extraordinary second tour by Collsaplana when more complicated when the pilotage was due to the dampness in the road, where they were obtaining the best third, fourth and fifth time.
In the second stage there were disputed the special ones of ‘Tossa-Sant Feliu’ and ‘Els Àngels’, besides the ‘Sils's Circuit’, repeating itself in two occasions. Antonio Sainz and Javier Cattaneo do with the forecasts and with a very regular conduction were supporting the third position of the general up to the final podium. Ferran Font and Carles Palou, in a few sections where his Escort were not proving to be so effective, were defending his respective positions with a few spectacular conductions, being two of the pilots most applauded by the numerous present public along the tour.
Finally the Andorran pilot Ferran Font and Oriol Julià they were supporting the second position in the Category 2 opposite to Jean Ragnotti, in whom it was the début in competition of the new Escort RS, after the test of Andorra in the past Rally of Andorra, when Font exercised as ‘car zero’.
The unit constructed by ASM Motorsport possesses specifications of Gr4 FIA, with the engine BDG, the change ZF and all the technical characteristics that allow the maximum competitiveness. Carles Palou and Albert García, in his second rallye with the Escort MK2 Gr4, proved to be increasingly competitive entering in the ninth position of the general and fighting on equal terms, opposite to the big special Europeans.
Now the team prepares already his participation in the Rally Basque–Navarrese, one last round of the Spanish Championship of Historic Cars, with Antonio Sainz and Manuel Bobes, where the latter will fight to obtain the second position. To finish the national season the team will return to lands of Madrid to take part in the Rally Community of Madrid. Whereas internationally Alex Sabater will take part for the second year in a row in the Roger Albert Clark Rally "RAC Rally", last weekend of November.
