SPA Six Hours - Historic racing at its best... for the whole family!

The F1 have hardly left the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, when true to tradition the classic and historic brigade prepare themselves to invade the paddocks. Scheduled one week earlier than last year, the Spa Six Hours has over the last few years grown in prestige, with the Roadbook Organisation team making it a point of honour to ensure a quality event... but equally a unique atmosphere in the field of historic racing.

For this 2008 vintage no less than 11 series, each one as prestigious as the other, are awaited in the Belgian Ardennes. Topping the bill of the meeting is the actual Spa Six Hours event, held on the Saturday evening. Once again the grid will be comprised out of a highly imposing selection of Touring and Grand Touring cars built between 1955 and 1965 that will be battling it out as night falls. Pure motor sport magic from an earlier era...

The rest of the programme is just as exceptional, with notably the Grand Prix Masters, bringing together F1 cars powered by 3 litre engines entered in the World Championship between 1968 and 1978. A category where we find the Belgian Jean-Michel Martin, who over the year has built up quite a reputation with his renowned Ensign, with amongst others a podium place at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix! And with Christophe D'Ansembourg and his McLaren, the Belgians are more than ever out to prove their worth.

Aficionados of Le Mans and the 1000 Km of Spa will be over the moon thanks to the Masters Sports Cars, who will be entering such machinery as Porsche 917, Lola T70, Ferrari 312, Alfa Romeo 33; in other words the stars of the Sarthe and the Belgian Ardennes between 1965 and 1974. The GT & Sports Endurance Masters will be doing honour to the pre-’66 GTs and Sports cars pre- '63, whilst the Top Hat Masters All Series are proposing a tasty cocktail of Touring and GT cars from various eras.

The Historic Sports Car Club are bringing out their single-seaters, The Historic Motor Racing News U2TC will be on track with their pre-1966 Touring cars of under 2 litres, the RAC Woodcote Trophy boasts a wide variety of cars between 1945 and 1955, the Motor Racing Legends Pre-War Sports Cars are on hand with prestigious Sports cars from the '20s and '30s, whilst the BRDC Historic Sportscars and the British Sports, GT & Saloon Challenge will stand out through their diversity.

Notwithstanding the fact that the entrance ticket for the Spa Six Hours has been set at 15 euros for the three days, Alain Defalle and Vincent Collard have once again increased the number of activities and initiatives to meet everyone’s taste....as a family.

Whilst the 600 cars, being masterfully handled by 1000 drivers will be putting on a captivating performance on the track, in the paddocks there will be a vibrant village atmosphere in the Spa Family Paddock; stalls with books, second hand goods, motor memorabilia, paintings, engravings as also regional produce.

The children are more than welcome in the Kids Area, where to their delight they will discover entertainers, face painting, drawing competitions, bouncy castles, wall climbing, etc. And on top of that, entrance for children under 12 years old is absolutely free!

Last but not least, visitors wishing to sell a classic car, with a minimum age of 25 years will be able to exhibit same free of charge in the Parking Classic Cars Visitors, and which will be open on both the Saturday and Sunday. A worthy initiative which not only exemplifies the conviviality of top level historic meetings but in addition the interactivity which the Roadbook Organisation are striving to achieve. So head straight for Francorchamps and enjoy a quite unique weekend on 26th, 27th and 28th September...
